I’ve gotten all the ladies in my office obsessed with brooches. They’re such a fun, quirky accessory and so easy to find at any vintage market or antique shop. I guess they probably sell new ones but there are tons of amazing older ones. Go get yourself a brooch! All the cool girls are wearing them.

Here’s the secret to organizing your space: if you do it in a way that makes sense to you, in a way that fits your lifestyle, it will stay clean with barely any effort.
This is the top drawer in my bedside table which I snagged from my grandmother’s antique shop back in the 90’s. It’s been next to me every night for 30 years and I still have the price tag on it in grandma’s cool handwriting. (Everyone’s grandma has amazing handwriting.)
For most of the 30 years this has been a catch-all for junk and pens and receipts and many lip balms. I always meant to tidy it up but never did. Until six months ago. Now everything has a place and it’s stayed pristine like this easily.
Here is what I know about myself: I like everything to have a very specific spot. The more cubbies, the better. I like to have scissors and lip salve nearby AT ALL TIMES. I read several books at once so I always need to have lots of bookmarks handy. Bookmarks, NOT receipts and old tissues. I have enough pens and pencils for every human on the earth. I’m not very picky about them; I just like them to be handy. I finally need reading glasses. Lame.
Ok, I totally made up the top drawer challenge but let’s all do it because it will force us to get organized!!! Tag me in your . All cubbies are from because, duh. And also the super adorable kitty bookmarks. And the grey cloth that cleans off my screens. And the little red box holding my earplugs.

Every time I make Mango Sticky Rice I think of who gave me all the tools I need to make my it for myself. It’s seriously one of the best desserts ever even if it does take all day. I like the recipe from the the best. If you’re starting from scratch has some great videos on making THE BEST Thai rice. Although it takes hours, it’s not hard or complicated. You should try it!

For Indigenous Peoples Day (don’t why it’s “peoples” instead of “people” but whatever. English is stupid.), may I present my all-time favorite book about the all-time most kick-ass Native American tribe, the Comanche. We happen to live in the same general vicinity where the Honey-Eater band resided at one point. The Comanche were the only tribe that actually fought on horse-back. Other tribes rode horses into battle, but dismounted to fight. Only the Comanche fought the way every Native American in every Hollywood movie always fights (what?Hollywood is wrong?). They were the most amazing horsemen and also the reason why not many people actually lived in Texas until after the tribe was lately decimated and sent to a reservation in Oklahoma. As warriors, they didn’t have much in the way of arts or a written language, so their heritage isn’t as well-known as their neighbors the Navajo.
Their story is one of an amazing people (excuse me, peoples). This book is fascinating but ultimately frustrating and heartbreaking. You should read it.
