My urban solution to my super hectic schedule, small space and less sun

81 leafy greens in 3 sq feet area indoors

Excited for my daily salad bowl with fresh and pesticide free greens with much more nutrients than what we normally get in market.

How to harvest correctly to get bigger harvest?
How to make plant bushy?

PINCH the growing tip from the top of the plant to harvest.

This MINT seedling got long and leggy, so I pinched it from the top to use leaves in my tea.

🌿As growing tip has been damaged after pinching from the top, plant produces two new growing tips from the leaf node to keep growing.

🌿Once these two new branches will reach certain length I will pinch them too, so that each of these branches can produce two more branches.

🌿This will make the plant bushy.
🌿🌿🌿More branches, more leaves, bigger harvest.🌿🌿🌿

DON'TS
⛔ Do not harvest from the bottom or side branches, leaving the top portion intact.
⛔ Do not harvest only leaves leaving the skeleton behind

Ever had Gujarti dish made out of flowers of "varsha Dodi" ? Delicious 😋

This medicinal herb blooms in monsoon. Both leaves and flowers are used to make Indian curry.

It is said to be good for your eyesight.
It is hard to find in urban cities these days.

My mother (who's not at all into gardening) pushed few mint cuttings in this pot casually, after seeing me failed couple of times to start mint from cuttings - which is believed to be the easiest thing to achieve even for beginners.

And look how well it worked out, putting new leaves.

WHY DID I FAIL? 💔💔

🌡️I have always tried to start mint in summer. Our summer is super hot and dry.
🌡️Even if cuttings were rooted through water propagation, they did not do well with transplant shock when I moved them to soil.

🌧️🌧️ Monsoon is the best season to start plants from cuttings. High humidity and moderate temprature makes cuttings root faster and do not go under stress of any sort.

Most plants thrive in monsoon. Hence, Monsoon is the best season to try gardening as a BEGINNER as there are less chances of failure.

Happy Gardening 🌈

When you purchase the plants online and you see good packaging with healthy plants.

This was my first plant purchase from Amazon. I had some terrible experience with online plant purchase with local vendors. This time, it wasn't the case.

Happy me 🥳

SUN 🌞

Only those who are into gardening or lacking vitamin D3 🤣 can understand importance of it.

I converted part of my unused study table to indoor grow station, by installing grow light (with Desi jugad). This is my second trial with the grow lights.

As I have small space partial sun balcony garden which gets only 2-5 hours of morning sun, it is extremely difficult to start seeds in monsoon when it's mostly cloudy.
Morever, lesser the sun slower the growth, for most veggies.

With this grow light, now

🌞No more leggy seedlings
🌞No more slow start
🌞Healthy and strong seedlings
🌞Happy me.❣️☺️

I love Rain Lillies. I wish I could grow more of these. Comes in many different colours now, these are very low maintenance plant you can grow from bulbs.

🌸 Very low maintenance
🌸 Heat resistant
🌸 Comes in many different colours
🌸 Can be grown in shallow container
🌸 Not a heavy feeder
🌸 Drought tolerant
🌸 Works for me in 2-4 hours sun
🌸 Permanant plant

Why don't I grow more?

Because no matter what you do, it only flowers when it rains. This is the best flowering plant for regions with long monsoon season. Rest of the year, it would serve as a permanent foliage plant. Unfortunately, because of space crunch and short monsoon season, I am reluctant give up space for these beauties. But if u have space , go and get these babies, to make your monsoon colourful.
