That’s what Buddhist Temples in Thai are known, which means enclosure !
CHALONG WAT built early in the 19th century is one of those 29 buddhist temples surrounding the “Big Buddha of Phuket”. The tallest structure on the ground of the WAT is this 60 meter high CHEDI (stupa); built of three floors in which ground, first and second has donated golden statues of buddha while on the top floor is a relic name “Phra Borom Sareerikatat” sheltering bone fragment of Lord Buddha !
Whilst wandering the space what captured my attention are the facades of each sub-spaces, like this CHEDI !
A simple base structure with paradigm facades reflecting cultural, religious, spiritual and maybe mythological propagandas. I am influenced by works of Eileen Gray and her principle of design “It is the architecture itself that must be the real decoration”, which means the function should ascendant the form but such are the examples where the form ascendant the functions as shown in the next image where a singular entity is articulated as a facade with respect to the whole form and can be consider as an architecture cause it reflects a civilization’s identity as a rememberance !
