A little bit about Addeniums. The Addenium is also know as the DESERT ROSE and it grows upto 80 - 90 - 100 years. Its a natural Bonsai and they make both good indoor or outdoor plants. 🌿🌞. Having said that - more the sun - the happier they are - The trick is to give them lots of sunshine and hide them from continuous torrential ☔️💦rain.

WA me on 9980075354 for Special Pricing on bulk quantity 12 and above. All the 12 will be different colours.

My friendly neighbours remembered me while vacationing on their estate. It takes more than a thought 💭 and lots of effort to actually get this Foxtail/ Rynchostylis which was perched high up on the tree. Thank you Ramsy And Shoba Pinto. You not only made my day but have now etched your names for the 2nd time in my garden.

They 👀 so beautiful and are indeed a treat to the eyes 🤗

This Sunday is the first time I actually felt sad when this bunch of Adeniums were sold. What was the reason behind this feeling ? I'm still trying to figure out

Here are the top reasons Addeniums die:

Too much water. It’s not only possible but very common that people love their Addeniums too much. In reality, there are very few plants that can handle daily watering in a typical potting situation, even many of the tropical plants we love indoors. The old advice about waiting until the top inch of soil is dry is a pretty good rule of thumb. You can also look for signs of thirst in your plant, including drooping or wilting leaves. In general, you shouldn’t water your plants until they need it. During rainy season hide your plants under a Sajala or indoors (Unless you have a good drainage system)

Poor drainage. Watering and drainage are so closely related, it’s hard to draw a distinction between them. Bad drainage kills a lot of plants. Poorly drained pots, old potting soil, can easily retain water in the bottom of the pot, even if it’s drier higher up. The result is roots that sit in water, creating the perfect conditions for root rot. Similarly, many people water their plants until the water runs out into the tray, but then they don’t empty the tray so the plant is literally sitting in a pond. .

Not repotting. It’s all too common that a plant owner will have a plant for a year or two, during which time the plant thrives and looks great, only to be startled and confused when the plant starts to fail for no reason. In many cases, this is caused by a root-bound plant that is no longer receiving adequate nutrition from the soil (because there’s hardly any left). Not all plants need to be repotted every year, but you should frequently check . Repot every 12 - 18 months .

Old potting soil. This is also closely related to not repotting. Most potting soils are based on peat, which breaks down over time and becomes more acidic. As peat breaks down, it becomes harder for water and oxygen to fully infuse the root zone, so the plant will effectively starve slowly even if nothing else changes (e.g., your watering schedule). The best solution here is to repot when the plant needs it. If your plant is too old, take cuttings.

Not enough water. This is mostly caused by neglect, so it’s a safe bet that people who let their plants die from lack of water really just don’t care.

Fungus : Periodically check the texture of the Caudex. If its getting discoloured or soft, there is a Fungus attack. Leaves also begin to get discoloured. The best thing here is then to cut off the portion where the leaves have begun to droop and get discoloured.

Pesticides : White Mealy Bugs and Caterpillars love Addeniums. Keep a close watch on your leaves one pest can ruin your entire collection if you do not watch out and spray a periodical dose of Fungicide and Pesticide alternatively.

Like i mentioned before - I too am learning all about Adeniums. Want to share with you todays tip - specially since Summer is here and it is here to stay.

FERTILISING DURING SUMMER

All these days you have been fertilising the plant every two weeks in spring with a complete soluble fertilizer (NPK 19:19:19 2 Gms per litre of water) Now that Summer is here, stop soluble fertilizer applications as plant growth slows, and make a single application of a slow-release fertilizer, Make a second pecial application about two months later, at the end of May 2017.
