SJR Eastwood, Sarjapur Road, Bangalore

Located on the outskirts of Bangalore, away from all its hustle and bustle, the Kalwani residence is all about the play of volumes, light and shadow along with green buffer courtyards at various levels.

Facets of climatology have been embraced through the usage of locally sourced wire-cut bricks, cross ventilation, natural day light and minimizing openings on the Western and Southern facades thus reducing the dependency on artificial cooling technologies.

The house drapes itself comfortably in its surroundings of lush green vegetation by bringing a part of the outside into itself in the various courtyards at different levels inside the house.

Currently ongoing, the residence is expected to be complete in the end of 2021.

Arekere, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore

The House by the Tree is a residence designed for a young and dynamic couple with a five year old son.

The brief of the client required us to play with split levels as the young one enjoys climbing spaces.

The House by the Tree is an amalgamation of simple contemporary lines, with a hint of traditionally dressed stonework that adorns the west facing entry. Fired wire cut bricks are skillfully laid, enveloping the west facing elevation with minimum openings to cut out the heat from the afternoon sun.

The sit out on the top is set inside with a pergola, laid with clay jaali blocks to cut down the entry of direct sunlight and heat into the master bedroom. This same treatment has been provided at the entrance to provide adequate cover yet bring in specs of light.

The House by the Tree is a well balanced abode that satisfies the basic needs of light, ventilation and thermal efficiency.

Maruthi Greenfield, Hosur, Tamil Nadu

The House of Asymmetry, as the name suggests, was born out of a productive discussion of thought between the clients and the architect. Thus the idea of creating a single slope that shades the sit out on the first floor and the car park on the ground was designed.

The complete house is created using hollow clay blocks that enhance thermal insulation and noise reduction, revolving around a traditional theme of architecture from Kerala, the native of the clients.

Teak wood capitals, ornate Athangudi monolithic stone pillars and detailed elements of native teak wood bring an essence of ethnicity to this abode.

Built on a 40' x 70' plot, the house covers just about 50% of the site while the balance is completely left to landscape and vegetable gardens that spill over from the built mass.

Located on a gated farm community that abuts the Bathlapally lake in Hosur, the community is proactive towards the upkeep of maintenance and water recharge of the lake, the source that also keeps the community bore-well rejuvenated. The abode is on its final stages of completion. Stay tuned for a complete photo shoot upon completion.

Denkanikotai, Tamil Nadu

A retreat at the farm is designed for a young couple, each running their own enterprise, as a getaway spot from the hustles of the city.

The 3 acre property is nestled deep into the Denkanikotai forest and is along the lines of an elephant and leopard trail.

The house is located at the center of the site, around which vegetation and landscape would eventually envelope the dwelling.

The entire house is designed overlooking the hills on one side and a courtyard on the other. The living and bedrooms are placed in one line, with different heights and differentiating volumes. The dining is a part of the open courtyard and the kitchen is placed on the opposite end with a vegetable garden as a spill-out.

The pool has been placed at the central axis of the house and looks out towards the hills.

We look forward to a photo-shoot once the landscape envelopes the built massing in due course of time.

The house with its varying volumes creates a sense of hierarchy of sense and space, in harmony with adequate light and ventilation in a zone of relatively hot and dry climate.

Jayanagar , Bangalore

Renovated on a restricted 30'x 40' plot in a dense urban settlement in Bangalore, the House of Contradiction remains true to its name by housing 3 generations under a roof.
Purchased as a ready home by the Father in 1990, the renovation incorporates the ideology of the grandparents, the parents and sons in an an accommodating manner.
Hence, one could believe that the architecture born out of the same is contradictory, looking at the elements of design in its usage.
The house adorns elements of traditional architecture of stone columns, teak capitals and sloped roofs while the other looks at a relatively contemporary element of pergolas and straight lines.
The final result though, has resulted in a wonderful amalgamation of ideas, born out of conflict and dialogue.
