The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium (JNP) is Started in 1989. The JNP organizes several interesting programmes aimed at school students and general public. These are: monthly star gazing, science club activities, science movies, Sky-theater shows every day, viewing of astronomical events etc.
Yesterday was zero shadow day in Bengaluru. What that means is that at local noon (12:17), the Sun is directly overhead and a vertical pole will cast no shadow. You can stand in the Sun and look at your own shadow.
This happens because the Sun moves from 22 December (winter solstice) over the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere, to 21 March (spring equinox) over the Equator, to 22 June (summer solstice) over the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere. It happens again in August but that is monsoon time so we don't notice.
On the occasion of zero shadow day, Team Thrayee and Waves of Bharat organized a visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium for 30 children from G.K.E.P.S Government School, Magadi Main Road, Bengaluru.
The students were so excited to witness the amazing phenomenon.
Our team is thankful to Jawaharlal Nehru Taralaya, Bangalore for this opportunity that brought smiles to the faces of these children..
