Thirdspace Architecture Studio Based in Belgaum, ThirdSpace is envisaged as a network of professionals working
on architectural/ ur The following is a sampling of our work, built and unbuilt.

The name thirdspace is in a way, a refusal to be defined with only a single approach or individual. It is also a refusal to be slotted into easily identified categories. Thirdspace, in fact, is not
the name of the office, but the name which we give to the complex space of India in which we
have chosen to work in. A space that is simultaneously premodern, modern and postmodern;
preindustrial, indus

trial and late capitalist; socialist as well as capitalist...This complex environment,
which defies any easy classification is the third space in which we operate. Our projects themselves blur traditionally accepted boundaries, looking at urban issues in interior
projects and architectural issues within urban proposals. The diversity of the work, also lets
us experiment with similar generative techniques across different scales of budget and size.

Framed / WIP / 2024 - Iteration 02 for a single family residence atop a retail space in the periphery of the city. The retail space seeks to monetise the commercial potential of the site thus ‘cross-subsidising’ the cost of the house, while also allowing the living spaces uncluttered views, light and ventilation.

Stacked Student Housing / Completed 2016 - 2/3

The pared down material palette is as much an exercise in frugality as it is a device to let the spatial experience take Center stage.
Concrete is left bare, bricks are whitewashed, black Kadapa stone slabs become walls for toilets, steel plates get folded to be stairs to individual rooms and a steel handrail easily traverses vertically through the staircase with minimum support.

Stacked Student Housing / Completed 2016 - It’s almost 8 years since this tiny project redefined degrees of density and privacy on a site measuring just 111.5 Sq.m.
The form of the building is a direct product of its section, and what appears as a pattern of random fenestrations is actually a result of a careful layering of spaces for living.

21st Century Environs for a 12th century Stone Temple / Ongoing-2023

A Redeployable, Reusable and Multi Coded Flexible landscape strategy that is built around the aspect of impermanence and mobility in order to respond to restrictions and requirements posed by diverse stake holders, ranging from the local community to the Archeological Survey to even the Indian Army.

The ephemerality of the landscape offers a contrast to the seeming permanence of stone structures that have withstood the passage of human and natural history through millennia.

WIP / 2023 / CoLive @ TAS

An old dilapidated apartment of 1960’s vintage, situated next to our Belagavi studio, and owned by our principals, is resurrected as a Co-living space for the architects of our studio.

Manipulating the restrictive spatial matrix of a load bearing structure, it creates private and shared spaces for 6 inhabitants with generous amount of social spaces including a roof garden.

In a way these spaces are imagined as an extension of our studio into our immediate neighbourhood.
