Day 5: Devlopment
( read caption )
What you see above is the before and after "development" pictures of the Mint clock tower!
The mint clock tower aka mint manikoondu is the one of the oldest clock tower in madras, second to doveton clock tower. Built under the South India Watch Company, it is an iconic art deco structure located on the mint street ( thanga salai ) known to be city's longest street.
Even though I was delighted to see the clock tower get repairs , little did I expect it to be painted in such distasteful colour palette with cyan, while, blue and pink.
The importance of following a guideline for renovation and repair of heritage structure needs to be stressed upon yet again, because for something to be so far from it's orginal state that it's almost painful to look at is just sad.
It's never just paint, the outer colour of the building is also a element that forms the identity of the structure and here the pallete followed before was according to the art deco norms.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THIS "DEVELOPMENT"?
