We believe architecture should feel like a memory and a discovery all at once. Long before the dining room was confined by four walls, life unfolded in the courtyard, open to the sky, yet deeply grounded in the earth. At Cookgramam, we’ve revived this ancient dialogue.

These pillars are more than structural; they are an echo of temple mandapams and ancestral hearths, crafted not just to support a roof, but to cradle stories. By reclaiming the central void as a place for light, air, and kinship, we remind the modern world of a simple truth: food tastes better when the architecture allows time to slow down.

An upcycled Chettinad door relic serves as a portal to a space where Keezhadi terracotta sculptures line the walls, paying homage to the artistry of the Vaigai, while arched windows from Karaikudi filter light like a gentle echo of the past. By weaving these historic fragments into a contemporary setting, we’ve designed a restaurant that celebrates Tamil Nadu’s enduring bond with land, craft, and food.

We designed this outdoor space to feel just as intentional and comfortable as being indoors. By using these festoon lights, we’ve created a ‘ceiling of stars’ that makes the vast ocean view feel intimate and private. It turns a wide-open terrace into a cozy sanctuary, perfect for long evenings spent watching the tide come in.

Our intent was to compose the space through pattern and proportion. A patterned ceiling establishes rhythm overhead, while columns and screens define a clear central axis. Hanging earthen pots add depth and pause, without interrupting the sightline, allowing the sea to remain the focal point.

The design is organised around rhythm and alignment. The ceiling establishes structure and scale, guiding how the space unfolds. Furniture, finishes and lighting are kept precise so the focus stays on the horizon for the experience to take precedence.
