Why Buy a Home Automation System?

With home automation systems, you can forever banish concerns over unnecessary home energy expenditures and stop wondering whether or not you locked the front door. These high-tech solutions can help make your home into a smart home. In fact, a smart home system can control every light, appliance and compatible peripheral in your home

This burgeoning industry has spawned a choice selection of products from several respected manufacturers. We’ve compiled a list of the best home automation systems available and ranked them based on their performance in a variety of categories. The top performers in our review are HomeSeer, Control4 and Crestron, which have excellent feature sets. For additional information, see our articles on home automation systems in AutoNode.in.

Home Automation Systems: What to Look For

As you look for a smart house system, there are several things to keep in mind. A system with strong compatibility, the right functionality and excellent technical support is your best bet. Above all, you should try to look for a system that best suits your needs. The possibilities for automated intelligent home control are nearly limitless.

Compatible Peripherals
When you’re on the hunt for full-home automation, you need to be sure that the product you select can control the peripherals in your house to your satisfaction. A hardware controller is designed to be the control center of your home, so try to look for one that can manage a multitude of devices; this way you have greater options if you want to expand the system later on. You should look for a controller that supports common home control technologies like Bluetooth, Insteon, KNX, UPB, Wi-Fi, X10, Z-Wave and ZigBee.

There are a number of home automation peripherals to keep in mind as you choose your system. Each of the systems in our review can control lighting, thermostats, door locks, security cameras, and has environmental sensors and energy management tools to improve system efficiency. However, not all smart home systems support window coverings, garage door openers, entry sensors or home theater systems. It's important to remember that you might need to purchase equipment from third-party manufacturers as well.

Functionality
A good system is easy to use, promotes energy efficiency and improves the safety of your home. Home automation software allows you to create custom programs to easily perform a variety of actions. Randomized programs are especially valuable, as they turn peripherals in your smart home on and off to deter criminals by making the home look occupied when you're away.

Remote access can help you monitor your home when you're gone. Voice control capabilities can help your system become more convenient. Depending on your preference, you should also consider whether a system requires a wired or wireless setup before committing to have it installed. Some intelligent home systems even have the option for you to subscribe to a home security monitoring service.

Help & Support
If you have a problem, you’ll want to have good customer service options. Helpful support channels include telephone, email, user manuals and FAQs. Less common support features, such as a live-chat option and user forums, can be helpful as well. Although some of the systems in our lineup typically require professional installation, a growing trend means that you can install over half of the systems in our review with little assistance.

The best home automation solutions have plenty of features compatible with your needs. It is also essential for home automation systems to have a usable configuration and readily available customer service which is available only by few reputed dealers like HAS. It can be difficult to decide which kind of smart home you want, but with the systems in our home automation plans, you have some options.

Please Call 8525912345 for any home automation consultation not just in Chennai but anywhere in India. We at Home Audio Solutions HAS will take care of the complete Home Automation And Home Theater Installation in chennai....

Denon AVR-X2200W REVIEW - A Genuine Review by our AV Consultant Mr.Kalai.

I have been using Denon products for quite sometime and we are writing an unbiased review based on our experience with Denon AVR-X2200W

PROS: The Denon AVR-X2200W has very good dynamics with crystal clear sound reproduction and fantastic surround sound capabilities. Dolby Atmos and HDCP 2.2 support means the 2200W is well equipped for the future.

CONS: Low frequencies could use a little more punch. High frequencies are a bit too harsh. Service network in India is too bad or useless sometimes. Customer takes a grudge on the dealers for the brands lack of after sales service.

SUMMARY: The Denon AVR-X2200W has a lot going for it. Dolby Atmos works as advertised and creates a very engaging sound stage. Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth make it easy to stream music to the receiver. Plus, it also features full HDCP 2.2 support which means this amp is ready for future 4K video. The biggest obstacle facing the 2200W is the stiff competition its up against this year. For example, Onkyo’s new TX-NR646 has nearly the same feature set, but costs a little less.

Product Review:

Appearance and Design:
I would love to say that the Denon AVR-X2200W is a beautiful example of industrial design, but that would be a stretch. Like nearly every receiver on the market its big, black and boxy. The front is clean, simple and well laid out. Although, you’ll rarely have any need to use any of the buttons on the front of the receiver.

Denon AVR-X2200W Remote:
The included remote is basically the same as last years x2100. In fact, I’m pretty sure it is the same. Overall, it’s one of the more intuitive AV remotes you’ll come across. While it’s not as simple as Sony’s, it does have less button clutter than Yamaha’s or Onkyo’s and is quite easy to use.
Power wise, the X2200W pushes about 95 watts to each of its 7 channels. (a generous estimate by the way). It can handle a variety of audio formats including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. For music playback it can also decode a variety of high-res audio formats such as DSD (2.8 MHz) and FLAC lossless.

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X:
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are the newest audio formats to hit home theater. Both are object based formats which allow sound engineers to place sounds at specific locations in the listening area. The result is a 3D-like audio experience. Out of the box the Denon AVR-X2200W is Atmos ready however, DTS:X won’t be available until later this year as a firmware update.

Connectivity
Denon AVR X-2200W Connectivity

The Denon AVR-X2200W offers up an impressive supply of HDMI inputs with a total of 8. It also gives you 2 outputs one of which is ARC (Audio Return Channel) capable. All of the 2200W’s HDMI inputs feature the latest HDMI 2.0 standard and support HDCP 2.2 copy protection which you’ll need to play copy protected 4K (ultra HD) video in the future. Above the HDMI ports you’ll see dual WiFi antennas which should result in a more stable WiFi connection.

Despite the growing trend of eliminating analog inputs on receivers, the 2200W still manages to give you a decent amount of analog connectivity options with 4. It also has 3 digital inputs (2 optical / 1 coaxial). For bassaholics, the Denon AVR-X2200W also features 2 subwoofer preouts.

The Denon X2200W is also pretty well setup for custom installations. It includes an RS-232C serial port for home automation systems and is Control4 SDDP certified so it should integrate easily with Control4 automation control systems.

Calibration & Setup:
Setting up and calibrating the X2200W is a painless process for amateur users . Upon boot-up, the 2200W will walk you through the initial setup with step-by-step instructions from connecting your speakers to calibration. If this is your first receiver you’ll find the on-screen prompts especially helpful.
The Denon X2200W uses Audyssey’s Silver Calibration package which includes MultEQ XT, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Most AV companies recommend placing the calibration microphone on a tri-pod for the most accurate readings. In the perfect world this is the best way to calibrate your receiver however, most of my buddies use the old stack three boxes on the couch and slap the microphone on top method which, curiously, I haven’t seen mentioned in any instruction manuals for AV setup. I can’t imagine why. Brands like Pioneer using MCACC which is more user friendly and seems to be more accurate than Audyssey which seems to be an off the shelf calibration solution which any small brand can opt for making Denon a step cheaper than Yamaha and Pioneer.

Denon X2200W Review:
Denon evidently has realized that most people’s “ahem” calibration methods are flawed so they’ve included a handy cardboard tri-pod with every X2200W to assist with calibration. Once you slap the tri-pod together you slide the calibration mic on top and then you place the mic at 8 locations in your room as prescribed by the on-screen instructions. The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes and is well worth it.
Like all calibrations I still recommend going in and checking your settings. After the initial calibration I noticed that Audyssey had my center channel level way too low for my liking. However, after a quick tweak we were off to the races which usually happens with Audyssey.

The onscreen menu system of the Denon AVR-X2200W is serviceable. It’s relatively intuitive and easy to use. It won’t blow you away with fancy icons or graphics, but everything is organized and easy to find.

Internet Radio, Bluetooth and WiFi
I could bore you by spouting the normal mantra about dual RF antennas and ethernet lan ports, blah blah blah. And yes the X2200W does have all of these, but what you really want to know is do they work. The answer is yes. Getting my iPod connected via bluetooth took only a few seconds. AirPlay also worked flawlessly. I experienced no WiFi issues during my time with the receiver, so if you normally listen to Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM or internet radio in general, I don’t think you’ll experience any major issues. Of course if you do, you can always use the ethernet port on the back to make a “hard-wired” internet connection.

Performance
When I sat down to listen to the Denon AVR-X2200W it was immediately apparent that its strengths lie in its ability to produce a detailed, clear and wide sound field. Watching The Maze Runner on blu-ray, the 2200W managed to amplify the terrible claustrophobic feeling of being trapped in the grizzled stone maze. As the characters are being hunted by the creatures within the maze, the click-clacking claws of the terrifying monsters appeared at different locations in my listening area heightening the feeling of terror.

Interstellar, which was nominated for a sound mixing oscar, seemed like another good candidate for testing the Denon X2200W. For the most part the receiver performed admirably. Interstellar’s sound track is relatively bass heavy so I expected to be brutalized by some serious low frequency goodness. However, the 2200W, while having good punch seemed just a tad light in the bass department. On the other hand, dialogue was crystal clear. Overall, it’s performance was balanced although I would have personally preferred a little more aggressiveness with the low-end. Cranking the sound on the 2200W revealed little distortion so it should be able to play well in fairly large rooms.

I’ve slowly begun warming up to Dolby Atmos. The initial blu-ray releases that incorporated Atmos were a little underwhelming however, they showed the potential of the format. Jupiter Ascending really highlighted the benefits of Dolby’s new format. In my listening room, ceiling speakers aren’t an option so I went with the Dolby Atmos speaker modules. My modules of choice were the Onkyo SKH-410 speaker modules which fit nicely on my floorstanders. These work by reflecting sound off of the ceiling and down into the listening area. In my experiments with Atmos, ceiling speakers are probably the ideal solution, but these speaker modules work pretty well.

The one thing with Atmos, is it has the ability to put you in the thick of the action. Jupiter Ascending allowed the Denon 2200W to really demonstrate what the future holds with Atmos. The gravity boot scenes were especially impressive as they appeared to zoom over my head and to the back of the room. The ability of Atmos to “place” sounds in space made watching Jupiter Ascending far more engaging.

Conclusion
The Denon AVR-X2200W is a good amp. Feature wise, it seems to check off all the right boxes, HDCP 2.2, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X (eventually), Bluetooth and WiFi. On the downside, I do wish it was a little more forceful with its low-end. The AV playing field is getting crowded this year and the 2200W is going to face some stiff competition from the likes of Pioneer, and Yamaha. It will be interesting to see if it’s up to the challenge. We would definitely not prefer a Denon over a Pioneer or Yamaha or even an Wolfson AVR as the after sales service is pathetic in India.

Amazing product by Pioneer India . We should definitely write a few words about the awesome experience with this product. This is the favourite AV receiver of our Senior Audio Technician Mr.Kalai and lets see what he has written about the product in an AutoNode article....

Design/ Overall performance:
The Pioneer SC-LX87 is a gorgeous-looking receiver, boasting a sumptuous brushed black fascia as thick as some LED TVs, but it’s not for the faint hearted. Like most high-end amps, its big, bulky bodywork commands a huge chunk of space and at 18kg it’s like hauling an obese child round the cinema room.

Everything about it oozes quality, from the large, smooth-turning volume and input dials to the thick drop-down flap that conceals a multitude of buttons and sockets. The casing is super-rigid and well-ventilated to keep those all-important components cool.

Connectivity :
Also found under the front flap are a headphone output, a USB port (which supports all types of Apple device) and composite video input and a HDMI input, which supports MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link), allowing you to connect an Android smartphone and view hi-def videos on your TV.This HDMI input is one of nine in total – on the back are eight more (so many that they ran out of devices to label them with) and three outputs, one of which can be used to output signals to a second zone. Naturally, Audio Return Channel support comes as standard.

There are too many sockets to list them in full, but let’s just say you’ll probably never run out of places to plug your kit, no matter how much your system expands. There are three sets of component inputs (and two outputs, one for zone 2); four digital audio inputs (two coaxial, two optical) and one optical output; loads of AV outputs, including sets for zones 2 and 3; 9.2-channel pre-outs and 7.1-channel analogue inputs. Of course you’ll also find an Ethernet port to access the network features and IR, trigger and RS-232 sockets for custom install use.

Completing the line-up is a USB port for the supplied wireless LAN adapter and a port for the asynchronous USB-DAC, which lets you directly connect a PC or Mac and play high-resolution music up to 192kHz/32-bit. It’s unique to this receiver and clear evidence of the Pioneer’s audiophile ambitions.

Pioneer’s range of AV receivers caters to budgets from the extremely frugal to the decidedly lavish. If you feel that you sit in the latter category, you will need to look at the top of the pile and the SC-LX87. And, although this flagship might not be as pricey as some of the company's previous one-box offerings (such as the SC-LX90), it's still a very serious amplifier indeed.

The basic specs only really tell half the story. The THX Ultra2-certified Pioneer packs nine channels of Class D amplification into the substantial chassis. Each is rated at 220W (albeit at a slightly benign six ohm measurement); most speakers are unlikely to prove a problem for it. The use of Class D amps (here known as Direct Energy HD) isn’t merely a convenience feature either, as Pioneer opts for these energy-efficient compact power plants in products where there is no need to save any room. And in keeping with Pioneer AV receivers of recent years, the SC-LX87 has been tuned by AIR Studios in London to further try and improve performance.

As you might expect, the connectivity available to you to make use of this amplification is epic. Nine HDMI inputs are on offer, which can in turn serve three outputs (one to a second zone). Additionally, the Pioneer supports a legacy set of component and composite video connections. These can naturally be transcoded to HDMI; 4K upscaling is provided in addition to ‘normal’ hi-def resolutions. Audio Return Channel and standby passthrough are also supported.

Audiophile ambitions

The audio side of the Pioneer is equally ambitious. There are several assignable digital and analogue audio connections that should allow hookup to almost anything you could expect to be sat on a rack near the AVR – you even get a moving magnet phono stage, which is a nice touch, although I suspect the number of turntables any given SC-LX87 will see can be counted on the fingers of one knee. Audio processing is handled by an ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC, allowing for all audio to be upsampled to 32-bit/192kHz. Indeed, this resolution can be handled natively – files can be streamed from a computer directly to the SC-LX87 via USB, and Pioneer supplies an ASIO driver to aid this. Another useful sonic treat is Spotify Connect, should you be a fan of the music streaming service.

The Pioneer is also network-capable via Ethernet or a supplied LAN adapter and here things aren’t quite so slick. The provided setup information for the LAN adapter is lengthy but somewhat baffling and I eventually simply ran a long Ethernet cable to my router instead. Pioneer has since furnished me with instructions that make the process slightly easier, but it is still some way from being plug-n-play.

This operational challenge is a shame because once you do get the SC-LX87 up and running on a network the streaming options are useful and you can make use of the superior iControlAV2013 app to drive the receiver. Certainly, this app is preferable to the bundled remote control. This is a cluttered mess of tiny buttons that offers a choice of ‘basic’ functions, which turns too many useful features off, or ‘Expert’, which makes it far too easy to switch to Zone B and C – pretty pointless if you aren’t using them. Less tech-savvy family members will hate it, although it does, however, match well with the onscreen menus that are equally small and intermittently illogical.

The remote is pretty much the only bum note in what is otherwise a very nice piece of industrial design. The Pioneer looks imposing without being a leviathan, thanks to clean lines and a small number of visible controls. Blue LEDs and chrome detailing help to break up the unrelenting blackness. The only minor annoyance is that one of the protective plugs in the terminals refused to come out; I had to use bare wire connections on that speaker.

After running Pioneer’s excellent MCACC auto setup, which gave accurate distance, crossover and EQ settings for my Mordaunt Short Mezzos and Tannoy sub, the AVR showed some very likeable attributes from the outset. The Class D amplification imparts a character to the performance that I have heard in some of Pioneer’s stereo amps. There is a richness to its presentation that means the SC-LX87 never sounds forward or harsh but instead manages to be big, controlled and full-bodied even when driven with ferocity. Integration between speakers and sub is seamless.

Fast and furious

This means that the Pioneer’s rendition of Fast & Furious 6 is a fantastic combination of bombast and accuracy. The chase sequence with the tank – as magnificently silly a scene as any – is hugely powerful but packed with detail and a real sense of the relationship of objects to one another. Yet the stand-out skill of the Pioneer is perhaps its ability with voices. Even when all hell is breaking loose on screen, the SC-LX87 keeps dialogue crystal-clear and perfectly placed. In terms of clarity and coherence, this is a seriously accomplished receiver.

As the numbers suggest, there is no shortage of power here, and because of the smoothness and clarity the SC-LX87 possesses you can create truly vast soundscapes without strain. The vastness of Star Trek Into Darkness is bread and butter to the Japanese amp but it is just as at home with the claustrophobic forests of Troll Hunter – in both cases the soundfield is completely convincing. This same smoothness and control makes the Pioneer a refined performer in stereo mode, although what keeps explosions under control in films can make the SC-LX87 sound ever so slightly safe with music.

Conventional broadcast material is also well handled and the unflappable nature of the Pioneer means that there is very little you can find, even at the wackier end of the TV guide, that will upset it. With very warm-sounding speakers it is possible that the SC-LX87 might come across as a little dull, but with anything that is remotely neutral, you should find this an AVR that you can kick back with for long periods without it ever sounding fatiguing. Of course, if you do get bored, you can spend some time tinkering with EQ settings on the fly with the app – although while fun I struggled to really improve things.

There is a great deal to like about the SC-LX87 as an AVR. It is a powerful, refined and detailed performer that is as happy with full-bore action as it is with art house intimacy. The feature set is also extremely good and there is no doubting its technical ability. The complex network setup, clunky interface and fiddly remote do take some of the sheen off, though. Sonically, the Pioneer is too good to ignore but it might cause you a few frustrations getting there. Still, many of the best things in life require you to work for them, eh?

Hey Guys,
We recently happen to install these Cambridge audio Aero 6 speakers for an Audiophile customer and we have been surprised by the aesthetics and SQ in this product. Cambridge Audio is truly a legend by doing this product. We never sell a product based on its Cost or Promotions or because its easily available we always sell products which are professionally tested by our HAS team and we recommend only the products we have tested. Since a well known customer wanted us to install this speaker for his bedroom we had to observe this product and hence we are writing a review on that. HAS is the only team installs with RTA and sound calibration aids in India.Below are some words by our sound engineer....

Usually tweeters can be troublesome things. The smaller they are, the more broadly they disperse high-frequency sound - but the more they also tend to distort at lower frequencies. With a typical one-inch tweeter, the speaker engineer usually has to specify a crossover point somewhere around 2.5 kHz; anything lower will stress the tweeter. But that's right in the range where the human ear is most sensitive and where a lot of the defining characteristics of the human voice lie. The engineer would rather push the crossover point a lot lower, into a less critical range, but then the tweeter will distort like crazy - until it completely fries. Sure, you could add a midrange driver, but then your costs go way up.
The Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) -- a technology licensed by NXT and popularized largely through Cambridge Audio's Minx speakers -- seeks to solve this problem with a unique driver that works like both a midrange and a tweeter. At lower frequencies, a BMR operates like any other 2.25-inch midrange driver, working as a piston that moves back and forth to produce sound. At higher frequencies, though, the BMR diaphragm works more like an electrostatic or planar magnetic speaker: the center portion of the diaphragm vibrates on its own in a bending motion that's independent of the driver's back-and-forth pistonic motion. Because only the flexing middle part of the diaphragm reproduces high frequencies, the BMR has broader dispersion than conventional 2.25-inch drivers, yet its larger size allows it to be crossed over to a woofer at 250 Hz, in a frequency range that's not as critical to sound reproduction. So says Cambridge Audio, anyway.
The Aero 6 towers sat in the place where I put most tower speakers, with the front baffles about 36 inches from the wall behind them, the speakers about eight feet apart and 10 feet from my listening chair. When auditioning the Aero 2s in the front, I placed them atop my 28-inch-high, kitty-litter-filled Target metal stands and set them in the same spot -- except when I was comparing them with the Aero 6s, in which case they sat side-by-side.
I connected the speakers to a Krell S-300i integrated amp. Sources were a computer with a Musical Fidelity V90-DAC USB digital-to-analog convertor and a Panasonic DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray player.
So what was that little twist? Both Aero models initially sounded a little mellow in the upper treble, and I found that toeing them in to point straight at the listening chair - something I accomplished with the aid of a laser pointer - was critical to getting good high-frequency output. Likewise, I leaned the magnetic grilles in the corners behind the speakers and never used them. Granted, this is what I do with most of the speakers I review, but maximizing the treble output is especially critical to getting the best sound from the Aero speakers.
Value for money and best sounding speaker available in market at this price point...
