Made From More Than 11 Million Bricks
This 1842 viaduct by John Urpeth Rastrick creates an optical corridor of repeating arches: 37 spans, each about 9 m (30 ft), carried to a height of ~29 m (95 ft) over a length of ~450 m (1,480 ft). Built for the London–Brighton line and now Grade II* listed, it remains one of Britain’s most elegant pieces of railway infrastructure.
