This project is very close to our hearts, when I first heard of this project from one of our volunteer friends Mr. Shyam garu. Without any hesitation site visits have been done on the basis of friendship & for experiencing the environment unlike usual agreement of client/architect relationship.
The journey wasn’t only about restoring or redesigning this property for staycation but to understand a larger problem of littering & waste management in the mountains. During one of the visits to another site with the team, we have witnessed kids discarding the wrappers all their way to home from school, littering was unnoticed & damaging the ecosystem unintentionally. Also witnessed burning of trash generated in the homes around their farms in the mountains. We came back with a belief to work on this issue going forward in near future.
Our client had a free hand to execute the restoration project by themselves with due modifications while facing practical challenges on site. So we didn’t do any kind of site visit after delivering the modified plans.
Our visit after finishing the project was to shoot the project and to address the issue of littering & waste management in one of the kumaoni regions. Did awareness activities & cleanup drives along with school children(check ), sensitised them in the best way possible in 5 different institutes. The awareness was one of its kind for them to experience & follow in front of us since the main challenge was also to transport this waste to an established zero to landfill dump yard which is missing.
Our answers are unanswered and planning to prepare ourselves for proposing a Waste Management Ecosystem for the Kumaon Region.
