In fact, about 60% of all prescriptions written now-a-days are composed from the natural compounds of different plant species. These species saving lives and contribute to a prospering pharma industry worth over $60 billion annually. The only unfortunate thing is, over several natural medicinal plant species, only a few (about 5-8% of known) plant species have been screened for their medicinal values, although we continue to lose up so many species daily. Plant and animal species are the foundation of healthy ecosystems. We fully depend on ecosystems so that when species become endangered, it is an indicator that the health of these vital ecosystems is beginning to unravel. Very important factor to be remembered is that losing one plant species can trigger the loss of up to 30 other insect, plant and higher animal species. Some rare plant species became endangered or extinct because of wild collection due to their higher medicinal values and in other way, some people believe to use them for religious/spiritual/tantric beliefs by creating virtual value in the market, so people who wish to earn easy money searching over the wild-forests and causing to let those species endangered. In fact, this kind of virtual value created by some tricky people who live with foolish beliefs are the major cause for extinct of the life of many plant or animal species. Our Indian heritage of biological diversity is an invaluable and irreplaceable resource. All of our quality of life and that of future generations depends on our preservation of plant and animal species.
