“Phad” (फड़) translates to “fold” or “scroll”.

This exquisite Phad painting unfolds the legendary 12th-century love story of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan and Sanyukta, depicted in rich handmade mineral colors on cloth. Defying kingdoms and tradition, Prithviraj boldly claimed his beloved from her swayamvara, etching their tale into history as an enduring symbol of love and valor.

(‘Svayaṃvara’ is a matrimonial tradition in ancient Indian society where a bride, usually from Kṣatriya (warrior) caste, selects her husband from a group of assembled suitors either by her own choice or a public contest between her suitors.)

This 700-year-old Rajasthani art form, once used by bards to narrate epic tales, is distinguished by bold colors, intricate storytelling, and continuous narration, making it a true masterpiece of heritage and craftsmanship.

Meet André and Denise! Our friends from Brazil stepped in our home décor and lifestyle store 📍 ‘Coloroots’ during their trip to Jaipur and soon found them in a paradise where they got to experience the best of Indian traditional as well as modern contemporary artworks by eminent and semi-master Indian artists at 📍 Kalaneri Art Gallery!

André, himself is an artist, who was pretty keen in, knowing about the dynamics of our product range, types of Indian folk and tribal art implemented into various home décor and lifestyle products, as well as explore our modern contemporary paintings and sculptures displayed in the art gallery.

Denise, who was accompanying André, showed an equal interest in deciphering what particular art pieces meant that were on display and eventually fell in love with the blue pottery articles kept in Coloroots store.

Such experiences are what we love to impart with tourists coming from various parts of the world. It helps them know more about art flourishing in India as well as helps us in spreading awareness about the craftsmanship that this country nurtures.

Travelling is indeed one of the best ways to experience life itself. It transcends us into how we began, where we are and where we would want to be.

And it is indeed a boon to those who travel for their passion, maybe for food, or just to shop for expensive articles, or to experience different cultures predominantly. And with culture, they are exposed to diversities relating to people, their languages, their food, and definitely their creative sides channelised into arts and crafts.

One’s connection with heritage often leads to a deeper bond with communities creating different forms of art and articles branching out from it that hold historic and cultural values.
