Private Residence @ Kosamba 2023-25
Conceived as a quiet response to climate, light, and everyday family life, this private residence in Kosamba is shaped around the generosity of its northern edge. The planning allows diffused north light to pe*****te deep into the house, creating interiors that remain consistently soft, calm, and naturally illuminated throughout the day.
At the centre of the home, a double-height dining space unfolds around a communal courtyard — forming the social heart of the residence. More than a transitional void, the courtyard becomes a shared living environment where light, air, landscape, and daily interactions continuously overlap, encouraging moments of informal gathering and visual connection across levels.
The living spaces extend seamlessly into surrounding gardens through full-height glazed facades positioned along the north-east edge. Transparency is used not merely as an aesthetic gesture, but as a means to dissolve boundaries between the built form and the landscape beyond, allowing the changing character of light and greenery to become part of the interior experience.
Passive environmental strategies remain integral to the architectural language. Exposed concrete cantilever projections provide deep shading and climatic protection, while creeper-lined terraces and balconies act as soft environmental filters against the harsh sun. This layered skin allows the house to maintain openness and transparency without compromising thermal comfort.
Minimal in expression yet environmentally responsive in its approach, the residence balances spatial openness, climatic sensitivity, and cost-effective construction to create a home that feels both restrained and deeply connected to its surroundings.
