Kushinagar

Kushinagar KUSHINAGAR Kushinagar (Hindi: कुशीनगर), Kusinagar or Kusinara is a town and a nagar panchayat in Kushinagar district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

It is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site, where Gautama Buddha is believed to have attained Parinirvana after his death.

Kushinagar District
Kushinagar district is located in the south-eatsern part of the state, bounded by districts - Mahrajganj in the west, Gorakhpur in the southern- west, Deoria in the south and Bihar state in the east. The administrative seat is located at Padarauna town. The district forms a part of Gorakhpur Division.

Kushinagar district gets its name from the sacred death-place of Lord Buddha. At Kushinagar, Lord Buddha, an apostle of peace, compassion and non-violence, attained Mahaparinirvana (Salvation) in 483 BC. There are numerous religious sites to visit in and around Kushinagar district.

Temples : Mahaparinirvana Temple, Matha Kuar Shrine, Watt Thai Temple, Indo-Japan-Srilanka Temple, Sun Temple.
