The Cedars | Residence | Thiruvalla, Kerala | 1156 sqm | Project Year 2022
This twin villa in Kumbanad, near Thiruvalla, Kerala, is designed for two like-minded families, balancing shared living and individual privacy through a central common garden. Rooted in climate-responsive architecture, the homes prioritize natural light, cross-ventilation, and a strong visual connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.
Planned across four levels and shaped by the site’s natural topography, the residence integrates functional zoning with open, fluid interiors. Service spaces are efficiently housed in the basement, allowing the ground floor to remain open and adaptable for everyday living. Buffer spaces and pergolas regulate light and heat while enhancing spatial transitions within the homes. A sophisticated, earthy material palette and tactile finishes create calm, airy interiors. The upper floors accommodate private family spaces, while attic areas under sloping roofs improve ventilation and function as flexible leisure zones.
Traditional elements such as courtyards, sloping roofs, water features, and tropical greenery are reinterpreted in a contemporary architectural language, resulting in homes that are both contextually grounded and attuned to modern living.
