Ever stepped out for your morning walk with your phone in one hand, keys jingling in the other, and your cash stuffed somewhere in your pocket?

You only need a few essentials — but somehow, there’s never a convenient place to keep them all.

That’s where this little pouch comes in.

Made to keep your phone, keys and money together, it has a dedicated space for your mobile plus 2 additional pockets for those smaller essentials. The adjustable fabric strap is apt too...

And the best part? The solution started with something most of us would simply call scraps.

Bits of woven tape and canvas fabric, too small to use on their own, came together to create this practical everyday pouch.

From scraps that had little use → to a pouch that solves a very real everyday problem.

Two sessions in, and I still have no idea what this piece will become. And that's exactly the point.

This is my free-form embroidery sew-along with Katwal — a slow, unplanned journey where every stitch, motif, and colour is chosen in the moment, not from a plan.

No sketch. No "finished vision." Just fabric, thread, and whatever calls to me in that session.

Somewhere along the way, after a total of 8 sessions, this piece will become a bag... But right now, it's just these little oval pods of light catching against indigo denim, and these bold criss-crossed woven bands holding a tiny handful of seed stitches like a secret.

I'm deeply grateful for this kind of practice — one that asks me to sit with not-knowing, to trust the process over the outcome, and to let the work reveal itself to me instead of the other way around. In a craft (and a life) that often rewards control and certainty, this feels like its own quiet rebellion.

Grateful to Katwal for holding this space, and to my hands for slowly learning to trust it too.

I walked into this workshop with a plan. I left having thrown it out completely.

Here's what happened — and why it changed how I think about facilitating workshops.

On 10 January 2026, I was a resource person for a full-day Quilting & Patchwork Workshop in Koth, Gujarat, organised by the Alumni Association of College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan (AACHSNN), with Nirmala Sewa Society and the Daughters of the Heart of Mary — Nirmala Niketan (North Province).
I'd prepped a machine-quilting session.

Within the first hour, it was clear that it wasn't the right fit for the room.

So we pivoted to hand quilting instead. Because showing up prepared isn't the same as showing up rigid.
The real skill is reading the room and adapting on your feet.

The 11 women in that room weren't beginners. Most already knew how to sew, some already hand-quilted. So, what was new for them:
- Working with batting for the first time
- A real focus on finishes and binding — the line between "made" and "market-ready"
- A candid conversation about turning their skill into an actual business.
That conversation is where the day really shifted. Watching a room full of women realise they already had a livelihood in their hands — that's the moment I keep chasing as a trainer.

By 4:30 pm: 11 finished table mats. Every woman took one home. Together, they gifted one back to the centre. Here are some more voices of the day-
* "We learnt how to hide knots and do invisible stitches. Earlier, we never paid attention to finishing."
* "I will teach my daughter what I learnt today."

They've asked for a 4-week online Crazy Quilting course, adapted to their own work. So this isn't a one-day story — it's the start of one.

The strongest ones are stitched with love.

Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of a bond that grows stronger with every shared memory—childhood mischief, endless conversations, little fights, big dreams and quiet moments of support.
