Moisture can be your greatest enemy both during and post rains. Be it your furniture, furnishings or your gadgets and cupboards—moisture can be dangerous for all.

A few quick precautions:

* Water can prove to be a menace for books and papers; keep your important documents in a water-proof zip-lock case or file

* Do not let water accumulate in your surroundings; it can lead to breeding of insects. If there are any pots or vessels filled with water, make sure they are covered and clean

* Keep your home as dry as possible. One way to do this is to use a dehumidifier or air conditioner. If you don't have either of those, open the windows; let the sunlight and fresh air get inside

* Use lively, warm colours such as shades of yellow and orange to brighten up your home. The brighter colours can absorb moisture quickly

* If there is constant seepage, its source has to be sealed first, post which the affected wall should be dried and then applied with a fresh coat of specialised paint

* The best way to take care of the damaged wall is by ensuring that the pre-colouring process is done in the right way

* Before you proceed with the surface treatment, prepare the right base for painting and allow the damp spots to dry completely

* If there is any doubt about residual stains, consider applying a high quality, stain-blocking primer

* Introduction of polymers offers a high degree of stability to the paint and checks the infiltration of moisture/seepage
