A Quiet Conversation

In a city always in flux, a quiet conversation creates a moment of stillness through a sculptural study table and chair. Crafted in reclaimed teakwood with brass details, the design balances fluidity and structure—with a cantilevered surface and glass lamp. Built without nails, using adhesives and Japanese joinery, the work speaks of resilience, adaptation, and trust.

More than furniture, it becomes a metaphor for how urban lives are quietly pieced together—a presence, a reflection, and a subtle form of resistance.

Area : 8000 sqft
Design : Atelier Varun Goyal

The Courtyard House’s architectural design is anchored around the idea of connectivity, contextuality, and versatility. The central courtyard, inspired by traditional stepwells, becomes the heart of the home—transforming seasonally into a waterbody in summer and a bonfire space in winter. This feature, along with the integration of verandahs, staircases, and corridors, fosters movement, interaction, and unity while maintaining privacy between the two family homes.

The architecture follows a “Contemporary and Contextual” theme, blending modern spatial planning with locally inspired elements. Fenestration and skylights are strategically designed to maximize daylight, reduce dependence on artificial lighting, and enhance natural ventilation, reinforcing sustainability. The use of earthy and locally sourced materials grounds the design in its context, while the black-and-white narrative offers a timeless architectural identity that merges minimalism with cultural rootedness.

Project Name : Philtre&Co
Location : Lucknow , Uttar Pradesh
Area : 2000 sqft
Design : Atelier Varun Goyal

A heritage-inspired restaurant housed in the restored 19th-century premises of the former Newal Kishore Press, the space thoughtfully weaves Indo-Saracenic, Gothic-Roman, and British architectural influences with a modern design sensibility. The 1,200 sq. ft. indoor area and an 800 sq. ft. open-air courtyard, centered around a majestic neem tree, accommodate 50–55 guests, creating an intimate yet lively dining environment.

Terrazzo flooring, custom mid-century-inspired furniture—including Finn Juhl-style chairs crafted by Atelier Varun Goyal—delicate chikankari fabric partitions, and a mosaic-clad wood-fired pizza oven define the interiors. The chikankari screens, echoing Lucknow’s centuries-old hand embroidery tradition, filter light with a soft intricacy, while whimsical Claymen mini sculptures with expressive features introduce moments of playfulness and curiosity.

Together, these details foster an ambience that is both rooted in tradition and attuned to contemporary taste. The design achieves a seamless balance between heritage preservation and modern functionality, celebrating the past while embracing the present.

Bridging art, design, and craftsmanship, this collection explores material purity and sculptural form with a quiet elegance. The fluid teak chair, structurally light yet visually striking, embodies the studio’s philosophy—where furniture is not only functional but also an expressive extension of form and character. Complementing it, the study table, center table, and brass side table reflect a restrained yet powerful design language, their simplicity highlighting the integrity of materials and precision of craft.

The brass detailing introduces a subtle warmth and tactility, while the proportions of each piece are carefully considered to balance utility with timeless aesthetics. Every joint, curve, and surface is resolved with meticulous attention, ensuring the pieces age gracefully and gain character over time.
