Celebrating International Museum Day✨

On International Museum Day, we celebrate the power of museums and curated spaces to protect, educate, and bridge the gap between our ancient past and the present. Today, we are incredibly proud to highlight a very special architectural marvel that we successfully integrated into a museum display.

From Sacred Stone to Living History

The Story Etched in the Stone:

This isn't just any ordinary stone wall; it is the original, exposed back wall of the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of the historic Shri Saptakoteshwar Temple in Narve, Goa.

Archaeological and architectural study suggests a fascinating story: this entire temple Garbhagruha was originally carved right out of a cave within a single, massive laterite boulder. Laterite is Goa's signature indigenous stone, and this wall stands as a silent witness to centuries of devotion, architectural evolution, and masterful ancient craftsmanship.

I don’t restore temples. I return to them.
And today, one more shrine returned the favor.

Every kaavi line redrawn, every wooden bracket steadied, every dome that holds the sky again —
This isn’t about the past. It’s about the future having somewhere sacred to stand.
History breathed. I was lucky enough to watch.

Team Vaastu Vidhaan Projects presented their design proposal for the formulation of Heritage Street Design Guidelines to the Road Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). This initiative, undertaken by PMC, aims to develop heritage streetscapes inspired by 18th-century Pune, with a strong emphasis on pedestrian prioritisation. The proposal demonstrated a comprehensive design approach, addressing elements across multiple scales, from intricate details such as chamber covers to the module design of storefront elevations. Team Vaastu Vidhaan expresses sincere gratitude to the Pune Municipal Corporation for entrusting us with this significant and culturally sensitive project.

Team VaastuVidhan undertook the documentation of this bridge, conducting a thorough study in collaboration with the heritage cell of BMC. Subsequently, we created documentation drawings of the stone masonry structure and meticulously marked every stone prior to the bridge's dismantling.

It is unfortunate that the news article failed to acknowledge our efforts.

Mumbai's iconic Elphinstone Bridge, a 113-year-old structure, is being demolished to make way for a new double-decker flyover. However, the Basalt stones that formed its arch will be preserved and used to create a miniature replica in an open space in the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is spearheading this initiative as part of its heritage conservation efforts. The stones, each weighing nearly a tonne, are being carefully dismantled and will be refurbished to construct a mini arch bridge, similar to those found in gardens over water bodies. This project highlights the importance of preserving historical materials and the legacy of Basalt stones, which were once a staple in Mumbai's construction due to their resilience and local availability.
