When we talk about sewage treatment plants, we can generalise all the sewage treatment plants to be the same. Each sewage treatment plant has its own technology and modifications, like MBBR, SBR, FBR, MBR, and many more. There are many pros and cons to each technology, but the result for all the treatment plants is that both CAPEX and OPEX should be less and produce the best result. The maintenance and operations of the treatment plant also should be simple and not complicated. Otherwise, the treatment plant becomes challenging to maintain. Also, sewage treatment plants should be having enough retention time. If not, there will not be enough time for the biological process to happen. Multiple factors affect the operation of the treatment plant.

The sewage treatment plant can become complicated and troublesome if it is not well planned. As sewage treatment plants come with different technologies, every technology has its list of equipment. Some treatment plants have l more than a dozen pieces of equipment, and they require a workforce to maintain the plant. When you have more than a dozen pieces of equipment, there are high chances of a breakdown. When the equipment breakdown, if you do not have a spare, you have no choice but to stop the plant. When you stop the plant, the treatment does not happen, and you need to arrange an alternative way of disposing of the water—at the same time, getting a workforce is a big challenge as it is challenging to get staff in this field. Also, most plants do not run and are idly kept because of government rules and high maintenance costs and hassle.
