There are specific rules that you have to follow for maintaining the optimal situation of Vastu in bedroom. The bedroom is a very intimate spot and this is the spot that needs a lot of attention when one is trying to improve its harmony with the nature. There are some specific Vastu tips that have to be followed to get the best results. Here are some of the most important ones:

Door: The door to the bedroom has to open at least up to ninety degrees. This is significant of the fact that you are allowing maximum opportunities into your life. You are also supposed to make sure that the bedroom door is made of a solid and strong material, so that your private and intimate life is protected from the outer world and the interferences as well.

First thing you see: It is always good to make sure that the first thing you see upon entering your bedroom is something that is serene and happy. This could be a gift your loved one gave you, a photograph or even flowers!

Remove the clutter: Make sure that the room is clutter free and make sure that there is enough room and possibility for movement. According to Vastu for bedroom, clutter, especially within the cupboards and under the bed is really bad. Some of this clutter might also include things from the past that you are handing on to and affecting your life because of. It would be best to remove this clutter and make your room open to the forces of nature, so that you can be happier.

Sleep pointing to the south: When you sleep, your head should point to the south. The north provides the body with magnetic energy, which will excite the blood. This can really ruin your sleep and that must be avoided at any cost.

Mirrors: Do not keep a mirror on the northern side of the bedroom. This will make sure that you are always thinking about the troubles and it will also make sure that your troubles are being projected back at you. Move the mirror to another wall or you just keep the mirror covered when you are sleeping in the night.

Sharp corners: In the bedroom, Vastu dictates that you avoid sleeping directly in line with any sharp corners. Sharp corners would take away the calm and serenity from your life and make you much more tensed. This will not make the intimacy situation any better. Neither will it improve your chances of becoming successful.

Vastu means the dwelling of humans & Gods. Vastu shastra is an ancient science which helps one to get the natural benefits freely offered by the five basic elements of the universe in which we all live. These basic elements are Akash (SKY), Prithvi (EARTH), Paani (WATER), Agni (FIRE), and Vayu (WIND). Vastu Shastra can be applied by keeping in harmony with these basic five elements of nature. Vastu Shastra is an edifice science that was developed by our learned people thousands of years ago. Its application today is purely architectural and its principles are based on becoming one with nature.

Many Vastu rules are derived from 'Vastu Purusha Mandala' which is depicted as a man lying with his head pointing north east, in a grid of usually 64 squares. The different directions and sectors are assigned to different Gods and Guardians.

In doing Vastu of any place , home, work place, building, factory, land or plot we try to harmonize the place with respect to the five basic elements called as Panchbhoota namely Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Space. We shall discuss about importance of each of this element and how well we can harmonize them to relieve a stressful life, bringing 3 P's viz peace, protection and prosperity in our lives.

• WATER: Water bodies in north or east are considered good. As far as the flow of domestic water is concerned, it should be borne in mind and that such water should be drained out in North - East. Wells, tubewells, swimming pools etc. should all be in the North-East. The water from the toilets and bathrooms, too, should be drained out in the North- East. The North-East direction is always auspicious and suitable for water. There are sewer-systems in the cities. The Septic tanks or the flow of sewer systems should be towards North - West. The flow of rain or fresh water should be towards North-East.

• FIRE: The direction of Fire is South-East. The Kitchen, fireplace, geysers etc. should be placed only in this direction. Alternatively these could be placed in North-West, because it is at 180 degree to South-East. The Vastu Fire Element One can take care of the South-East Corners of all rooms and aim for Hapiness in the family, Good Health, Sound Finances, and Nice Married Life. As South-East belongs to Agni he can create enough trouble for inmates. The South-East corner of every room should be taken care of it. One can keep Agni - Vastu Fire Element cheerful by having a spotlight or lantern in the South-East corner with light or burning flame pointing to the roof. One can have the Electrical gadgets like Television, VCR, Fridge, Computer, Fire-place, Microwaves, radio etc placed in South-East corner.

• AIR: The air should enter the building from North -East. All the openings and media for air entry such as doors, windows, ventilators coolers, air-conditioners, verandahs, balconies etc. should be in this directions.

• SPACE OR OPEN SKY: The open sky influences greatly. We can get the effect of terrestrial-energies uninterruptedly. But the buildings prove a barrier to the effects of open sky. Therefore, the importance of roofs or lawns gets emphasized, but the Vastu shastra has refrained from deliberating in detail over it, because it is related chiefly to building construction and we will discuss only this aspect. Traditionally every house in India used to have an open space (Court Yard) in the center of the house. It provided the dwellers not only the open sky but also sunlight and cross-ventilation of air.

• SHAPE OF PLOT: Favourites are regular shaped square or rectangular plota AND irregular shaped plots are normally avoided.

• OBSTRUCTION: Obstruction like big trees, open well, pillars and posts before a arrow like roads are to be avoided.

• IDEAL SITE: A building should be constructed preferably in a square plot the house should be constructed in the for house centre and in rectangular plot it should be nearer to construction south, south west and west sides preferably leaving more in a plot open space on north and east. "L" or Considered not suitable for house as corners will be "U" shaped missing and occupants will be missing opportunities.

Complete Vastu recommendation for Plots

1. Plot should be square of rectangular in shape. Square would be best. If it is rectangle then the ratio of length to breadth should be 1:2 and not more than that.

2. The ground level should be higher in South & West rather than North and East.

3. Plots facing North or East are better than those facing South or West.

4. A canal, a lake, river, nallah, a big well or pond should be in north or east only.

5. Heavy construction or mountains should be in west or south of the plot.

6. There should not be any big tree in north or east of the plot.

7. There should not be any pit or well in south or west direction.

8. All four corners should be at 90 degree (set Square). If only north east is extended i.e. if it is less than 90 degree, it will do.

9. All rain water should flow from south to north and west to east.

10. South west should be highest & north east should be lowest in level.

11. If all the corners are not at 90 degree then we should correct it before starting the construction.

12. If the dead end of a road is coming in our plot then it should be taken care of because some are good & some are bad. This is called vidhee soola.

13. Their should not be any hills or mountains in east or north side of your plot.

14. At the time of purchasing the adjacent plot purchase only in east, north or north-east plots. Never purchase adjacent plot in south or west or accept if even if offered for free.

Now let us see what are the internal factors while looking for the apartment.
Shape of the flat: Select a flat which is more or less rectangular or square. Avoid other shapes. If the flat has extended in North East direction, it can be accepted. But flats extending in any other direction should be rejected.
◾ Main door: The main door of the flat should be in the North East of North or East. Or, it should be in the South East of South side or North West of West side.
◾ Other door positions: Doors can be towards North East corner in the East. Similarly doors can be fixed towards North East in the North. It can be towards South East corner in the South and towards North West corner in the West. The same rule applies for the entrance gates of the compound wall. indian vaastu for apartments
◾ Bed rooms: The master bed room should be in the South West corner. Master bed room should have more size than the other bed rooms. Other bed rooms can be constructed in North West or North East corners. The bed room which is in the North East corner should be used only by children or unmarried bachelors or aged persons. It should not be used by the couples.
◾ Kitchen: The kitchen can be constructed in the South East corner or North West direction.
◾ Toilets: Toilets can be in the South East or North West direction. Avoid toilets in the North East, East and North directions.
◾ No. of doors and windows: See that the number of doors will be even number like 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12. There should not be 10 or 20 doors. Similarly the number of windows can be 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12.

Let see while looking for the apartment, how it should be-

most of the apartments constructed today do not follow the Vastu rules prescribed by our ancient texts. Yet the builders claim that their apartments are built strictly according to the Vastu principles! As is observed, very few of the apartments follow Vastu rules. Even if we cannot expect 100% Vastu in case of apartments, it is advisable to follow at least the basic Vastu principles which will bring progress and peace to the dweller. In this article, I wish to present such basic Vastu rules which should be verified by the buyer or tenant before taking a flat in an apartment.

External factors:
The following rules are applicable to the apartment as a whole:
◾ The plot (land) where the apartment is constructed should be either rectangular or square shaped. It should not be in the shape of a triangle, hexagonal or any irregular form.
◾ The plot should not slope downwards to the South and / or West.
◾ There should not be any water areas or ponds nearer in the direction of South or West from the apartment.
◾ The apartment should be so constructed in the plot that it may be aligned towards the South West or North East in the plot. It means the center of the apartment should be towards South West or North East.
◾ The main entrance into the apartment is also important. If the main entrance is towards South or West in the South West corner, it brings bad luck to all the residents of the apartment.
◾ If any rooms are needed in the cellar, then the first room should be constructed in the South West corner of the plot. The second room then should be constructed in the South East corner. Next, the third room should be in the North West. It is better to leave the North East corner without constructing any room. Without constructing any room in the South West corner, one should not construct rooms in any other directions.
◾ The water outlets from the apartment should be coming out towards East or North or North East directions. It means all the water pipes should finally come out from the plot in East or North or North East.
