When members of the Polish Embassy, together with architects, planners, and representatives of the Polish Institute, Warsaw, visited us recently, the conversation transcended diplomacy and became a celebration of architectural history.

The purpose of the visit was to explore the remarkable yet often under-recognised contribution of the Polish architect Mathew Nowicki, whose visionary ideas influenced the earliest planning concepts for Chandigarh before fate tragically cut short his life and involvement with the project.

A special highlight was their interaction with Ar. S. D. Sharma, among the last living architects connected to Chandigarh’s formative years and a witness to the city’s evolution from its very inception. His memories provided a rare bridge between the founding vision of Chandigarh and its living legacy today.

The meeting served as a reminder that cities are shaped not only by buildings, but also by ideas, collaborations, and friendships that transcend borders. In revisiting Nowicki’s contribution, we honour one of the many minds whose dreams helped shape the modern identity of Chandigarh.

There are moments in an architect’s journey that remain deeply personal and unforgettable.
Honoured and humbled that renowned architectural historian, author, and professor Vikramaditya Prakash spoke so graciously at the launch of my monograph Cubist Modernism in Chandigarh earlier this year.

On the release of my Monograph- the Cubist modernism two months ago, Vikramaditya’s words touched me deeply — especially when he reflected on how carrying forward the legacy of celebrated fathers is never easy, and how, in many ways, he saw in me an “alter ego” navigating a similar journey of inheritance, identity, and evolution.

To be understood not merely through buildings, but through the emotional and intellectual journey behind them, was truly special.
Grateful for his generosity, warmth, scholarship, and encouragement. 🙏 .prakash thank you everything .design.magazine

On this Mother’s Day, I bow to the three mothers who define my existence—
my mother, my motherland, and the divine.

May I always remain worthy of their grace.

Cubist Modernism - Architecture of Sangeet Sharma. The response, for me, has been what I describe as Cubist Modernism — an exploration of faceted geometry, intersecting volumes, and sculptural massing, while retaining the discipline, climatic responsiveness, and structural clarity of modernist thought. The projects in the monograph attempt to move beyond stylistic expression toward a deeper synthesis of geometry and space. and great photography. thank you. .sp23 superb production.

A moment of quiet pride. A clip showing how the Governor of Punjab shows his deep regard and respect by assisting him always holding his hand gently …

Yesterday, my father, Ar. SD Sharma, was honoured by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT Chandigarh, for his lifelong contribution to the making of Chandigarh.

Seventy-five years after the city was envisioned, it is heartening to see the unsung builders finally being acknowledged.
At 94, still drawing, still thinking, still creating—his journey is not just about buildings, but about legacy, dedication, and an unwavering belief in architecture.

For me, this is more than an award.
It is a tribute to a generation that built a city—and a reminder that true work eventually finds its recognition.

Grateful. Proud. Inspired.

On the birth anniversary of Pierre Jeanneret…

I pause to remember not just the architect, but the man who became a guiding light in my father’s life.

Between a guru and his protégé, there exists a space that cannot be drawn on paper.
It is built slowly—through trust, through encouragement, through silent acts of belief.

Ar. S.D. Sharma found in Jeanneret more than a master.
He found someone who saw his potential, nurtured it, and gently pushed him to discover his own voice.

Their bond was not defined by hierarchy, but by respect.
Not by instruction, but by shared devotion to architecture.
And above all, by a quiet, enduring affection that words can scarcely capture.

In studios, on sites, and in moments beyond work—something deeper was being shaped.
A way of thinking.
A way of seeing.
A way of being.

This image is not just a memory.
It is a feeling.
A legacy.
A bond that continues to live on—through lines, through spaces, through time
