Grateful to the Indian Institute of Architects Jharkhand Chapter for inviting me to share the journey of Studio Sthala with such a thoughtful gathering of architects, students and seniors from the profession.
A sincere thank you to Ar. Atul Saraf for the invitation, Ar. Sandeep Jha for always motivating through his appreciation and belief in our work, and Ar. Raghunath Ram, Acting President of the Council of Architecture, Ar. Tarun Mukuti for his interesting/important eye opening questions along with all the respected seniors and young architects present there for engaging so openly in the conversation.
The session was not just about projects. It was about choosing to stay and build in Bihar. About starting with limited resources, learning through ex*****on, and slowly shaping a practice rooted in context, climate, craft and construction realities.
Sharing the evolution of Studio Sthala — from small experiments with exposed brick, filler slabs, lime, terracotta and passive design approaches to today’s larger architecture and design-build projects — felt deeply personal.
Conversations like these remind you that architecture is not only about buildings. It is also about conviction, responsibility, and the ecosystems we choose to contribute to.
Johar Jharkhand. Truly a memorable experience.
