Terrace That Slows You Down

In a city that never pauses, perhaps the greatest luxury is a place that encourages you to.

This terrace was imagined as a sanctuary where landscape takes precedence over decoration. Earthy lime-washed textured wall, handcrafted teak and cane furniture, lush tropical planting and vibrant textiles come together to create a setting that feels warm, familiar and quietly nostalgic. Inspired by Indian sensibilities with subtle Moroccan influences, the design celebrates colour, craftsmanship and the timeless joy of living outdoors.

More than a beautifully designed balcony, it is an invitation to reconnect with nature through everyday rituals, whether it’s watching the first light of the morning, sharing a meal with loved ones, or simply sitting in silence after a long day.

Because the best landscapes aren’t the ones we admire for a moment. They’re the ones we return to every single day.

A landscape is never just about plants. It is about the life that unfolds around them.

150sqft of space where functionality, utility and design come together

For us, designing an outdoor space begins with understanding how people wish to feel rather than how they wish it to look. This 150 sq. ft. balcony became an opportunity to create a sensory retreat within the city, where handcrafted details, layered planting, natural textures and soft earthy tones blur the boundaries between architecture and landscape.

Every corner was designed to encourage slower mornings, longer conversations and a stronger connection with nature. The result is a space that feels intimate yet open, vibrant yet calming, proving that even the smallest urban balcony can become the emotional heart of a home.

Thoughtfully designed landscapes don’t simply enhance a residence; they redefine the way we experience everyday living.

At just 150 sq ft, this balcony is conceived as far more than an ancillary utility space: it is a compact retreat where functionality, visual richness, and personal memory are distilled into an intimate design experience. Responding to the client’s desire for a fresh, multiutility space, the design reworks an existing cabinet while introducing a new storage element, creating a carefully calibrated environment that accommodates everyday utility without compromising aesthetics. The result is a space that feels layered, expressive, and unexpectedly expansive.

The design draws loosely from Spanish and Moroccan influences, translated through colour, pattern, texture and artisanal detailing rather than through a literal thematic treatment. The balcony’s east-facing orientation presented a particular challenge, as the space remains relatively gloomy for much of the day. The colour palette was therefore considered carefully, with a fresh green emerging as a defining visual note, lending vibrancy and depth to the otherwise subdued natural light.

At the heart of the scheme is a distinctive patterned tile selected for its dual resonance. Its visual language evokes the project’s Moroccan influence while simultaneously reminding the client of her childhood home in Lucknow, bringing an intimate layer of nostalgia into the contemporary setting. Green embossed marble is cut into the white tile composition, creating a tactile, graphic surface that becomes one of the balcony’s strongest visual signatures. This language is carried through to the cabinetry, where the laminate was carefully matched to the tile pattern, allowing the built-in elements to read as part of a cohesive composition rather than as purely utilitarian insertions.

The principal wall introduces another layer of materiality. An artist was commissioned to create a lime-wash texture, giving the surface a softly weathered, handcrafted quality that complements the Mediterranean character of the space. Against this textured backdrop, the patterned surfaces and green accents gain greater definition, while the restrained material palette prevents the compact setting from becoming visually overwhelming.

Before & After of this beautiful children’s room, designed to grow with the family.

When one room has to serve multiple purposes, every decision needs to be intentional. For this space, I wanted it to feel calm and expressive without falling into the usual predictable colours and themes of a children’s room.

Since the child is still small, we kept enough open space for play while bringing in colour, rhythm and a little bit of magic. The highlight is the main wall, hand-painted especially for the room, giving it a sense of personality and craft.

The bed can also be converted into a queen-size bed, allowing the room to effortlessly transform into an extra guest room when needed, or even a workspace for the family.

Just like the rest of this home, we wanted the interiors to be a sensory experience. Fabrics were carefully chosen to bring softness, warmth and comfort without creating visual chaos.

A room that can be playful today, practical tomorrow, and beautiful through every stage in between.
