Architect Prof. Christopher Charles Benninger (1942 - 2024); one of India’s great modernists and the firm stands on the immense body of experience spanning nearly half a century. CCBA is a laboratory of exploration and experimentation. The team has always functioned as a studio, only accepting commissions involving study, analysis and the exploration of visual, spatial, social and technological concepts impinging on architecture, urbanism and human settlements. As an internationally known ‘design house’ CCBA has created products ranging from a capital city and new towns; educational campuses and corporate headquarters; housing communities and complexes; hotels and resorts; and on to the design of chairs and art works. In the end, it is not the “things” we design, but the transcendental experience of the people using them, looking at them, or just being in them, which is their essence. For the studio, the good life exists just a step outside of materiality, in a mystic twilight zone, which is called architecture. Our endeavour is to create environments, ambiances and milieus that enrich people’s lives and make living a meaningful experience. Operating from the founding directors own premises, India House, this abode of design provides a salubrious work enivironment with galleries, recreational facilities and gardens. A culturally diverse team of young architects and support staff, over the past two decades, have won nearly a hundred prestigious national and international awards. The designs of the studio have been published widely in national and international journals. Mainstream magazine Business Week (USA), named the Mahindra United World College of India as among the ten “Super Structures of the World,” and Construction World has repeatedly confered ‘TOP 10 Architects of India’ award to the studio. Over the years CCBA has built an enormous pool of knowledge and experience. Many young architects have travelled long distances to work with the studio. A healthy atmosphere in the studio generates deliberations leading to well thought out and articulate designs. Youngsters in the studio employ their exceptional talents through advanced digital simulation, to explore massing compositions, inter-spatial relationships and contextual issues leading to refined spaces emanating from Benninger’s simple hand sketches. The final designs of the studio are an outcome of numerous iterations exploring diverse assumptions and possibilities. Young architects who came to explore their individual potentials, subsequently moved on to establish nationally recognized, award-winning practices. As an intellectual ‘design house’, CCBA operates from its iconic office ‘India House’ in Pune, India and is supported by an extremely talented and experienced team led by Managing Director Ramprasad Akkisetti, Directors Rahul Sathe and Ar. Daraius Choksi along with long time associates and senior architects Ar. Shivaji Karekar, Ar. Noel Jerald, Ar. Rahul Deshmukh, Ar. Sundar Bommaji and Ar. Mandar Mhaskar.

India House Art Gallery reopened its doors after five years with “Let A Thousand Flowers Bloom”, a captivating exhibition of drawing, painting, and photography inspired by the grace of Odissi dance, on Friday, 20th March 2026. The exhibition brings together the works of 21 artists from Bhubaneswar, Chennai, and Malaysia, celebrating movement, rhythm, and artistic expression across cultures.

The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests of honor, namely, Mr. Hanmant Rao Gaikwad, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director, BVG Bharat Vikas Group India Limited. Ms. Vaishali Hanmant Rao Gaikwad, Head of Corporate Affairs, BVG Group. Ms. Mrunal Pawar, Director, Sakal Media Group and Trustee of Pune Blind School & Nirdhar Trust. Mr. Sunny Vinayak Nimhan, Corporator, Pune Municipal Corporation. Mr. Vikas Achalkar, Past Chairman, Indian Institute of Architects, Pune Centre.

A highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing Odissi performance by Padma Shri awardee Mr. Ramli Ibrahim, the renowned Malaysian choreographer, adding a powerful cultural dimension to the event.

More than just an exhibition space, India House Art Gallery serves as a vibrant platform for dialogue between artists, architects, students, and the wider public. Through exhibitions, talks, and collaborations, it continues to enrich Pune’s cultural landscape, bridging tradition and contemporary artistic expression.

Mr. Ramprasad Akkisetti, Founding Managing Director, CCBA Designs, was invited on Tuesday, 17th of March 2026, to deliver a talk at the One Day Entrepreneurship Awareness Program (EAP), Exploring Horizons: Avenues after Graduation in Architecture. The event was hosted by the Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Architecture, Pune, in collaboration with the Council of Architecture and the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

Ram interacted with the students on the topic “Future-Ready Architects: Skills, Technology and Market Trends.” He emphasized the learnings of Prof. Christopher Benninger, Founder, CCBA Designs, highlighting the importance of designing a structure called “Me”.

The visit also provided a valuable opportunity to interact with the faculty and exchange perspectives on architectural education and practice.

Feeind I am sharing a vedio from yesterday when I was invited as the Chief Guest at the 3rd Annual Convocation of the College of Architecture, Vivekananda Educational Society (), Chembur, Mumbai, where I conferred degree certificates upon the graduating class of 2025–2026. Please see this 12 min vedio where I talk about powerful reflections from the life of Prof. Christopher Benninger, encouraging students to discover a deeper purpose in their professional journeys.
I spoke to the graduates about the importance of continuously developing skills, expanding knowledge, and nurturing tolerance in both professional and personal spheres. I also encouraged them to remain inclusive in their outlook, to respect diversity, and to always remember that we are all born equal.

Mr. Ramprasad Akkisetti, Managing Director of CCBA Designs, Pune, was invited as the Chief Guest at the 3rd Annual Convocation of the College of Architecture, Vivekananda Educational Society, Chembur, Mumbai, where he conferred degree certificates upon the graduating class of 2025–2026.

In his inspiring address, he shared powerful reflections from the life of Prof. Christopher Benninger, encouraging students to discover a deeper purpose in their professional journeys. He also cited the profound example of architect Louis Kahn’s design of the Salk Institute, built to honor Dr. Jonas Salk’s selfless contribution in developing the polio vaccine, reminding graduates that meaningful architecture, like meaningful lives, is rooted in service to humanity.

He spoke to the graduates about the importance of continuously developing skills, expanding knowledge, and nurturing tolerance in both professional and personal spheres. He also encouraged them to remain inclusive in their outlook, to respect diversity, and to always remember that we are all born equal. There is no need to rush or run a rat race. As designers, the most important structure we must build first is the one called “Me.”

Ramprasad Akkisetti, Rahul Sathe and Daraius Choksi have relentlessly directed various aspects of the practice. While Shivaji Karekar has anchored activities of the Pune studio, Deepak Kaw has managed a decade of the studio’s presence in Thimphu, Bhutan. Small teams mentored by senior architects, such a Noel Jerald V and Bhushan Pise, develop projects in the studio.
