Sanoth Lake Rejuvenation Project

A project is a collaboration between multidisciplinary practices and various stakeholders including the government. Therefore, an individual or an organization cannot claim full credit for its ideation or successful implementation. In this world of , | | are the only entities that are original and true winners who have the power to come back even stronger by being more resilient.

RootBridge Collab is proud to have played its part in conceptualizing and implementing the lake project with the Irrigation & Flood Control Department (I&FCD) of Delhi. Our scope of work included designing Wetland Pools and Eco-Landscape Architecture for a 6-acre lake in Delhi.

Wetland Pool- A polishing Unit
The water source for the lake is from a 1 MLD constructed (STP) along the Ghoga drain which is a km. away. It was already implemented in 2017-18 by the I&FCD and designed by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

The treated water from the STP is further through constructed around the lake to minimize the organic load & silt coming into the lake. The wetland pools are designed as natural with filter media and wetland grasses that take up the organic load as their food thereby cleaning the treated effluent further.

Wetland pools are excellent structures that capture silt and pollutants from the stormwater flowing into the lake. It acts as a buffer space for settling the when there are heavy monsoon flows.

Eco-Landscape Architecture
The is envisaged as a cluster of spaces subdivided into various eco-zones that respond to human needs and ecology. Local is planted to attract the and help sustain water ecology. Unlike other lake development projects, we followed National Green Tribunal ( ) guidelines of zero to minimum use of concrete/RCC in landscape development around the lake making it a more mode of rejuvenation.

Sustainable Water Management
A network of , & Wetland Pools becomes the backbone of the system that manages the water in an environmentally responsible manner. Maximum recharge is enabled through this system. The polished lake water is further used to irrigate the landscape and thereby creating a circular system of .

Public
Historically water bodies were the center of any to function as a water source, place of religious gatherings, cultural congregation, etc. This relationship between water and human is now transitioned to spaces of respite from the concretized areas and connecting people back to nature. for all are designed to activate the waterfront with much-needed public spaces.

The project has still much more scope for improvement, and we hope the stakeholders shall continue to refine the ideas further.
