Sansevieria Hybrid 'Mama Mia' Variegated.

Long before curved-leaf hybrids like 'Love Love', 'Watermelon', 'Ursula', 'Edel', etc... came into existence, it was this hybrid 'Mama Mia' by Sujatno Soebekti (Mr. Yatno) that introduced collectors to curved leaf hybrids. Introduced around the end of 2016, 'Mama Mia' was circulated among Indonesian breeders mostly to create curved-leaf hybrids. Although my specimen doesn’t seem to be showing curves yet, it will do that eventually.

Sansevieria Hybrid ‘Black Castle’

A Thai hybrid from Unyamanee Gardens. My specimen arrived diseased and had a lot of issues settling in. It took about 8 months to stabilize. Hopefully, now that it has picked up growth, it will continue to grow well 🤞

Collected by Dave Richards near Kamativi airstrip in western Zimbabwe. This clone has smooth, dark green leaves with diffuse mottling at some stages of growth compared to other scimitar types. One of my favourite scimitars. It is quite slow. It has produced 2 offsets in 2 yrs and one is way underneath near the pot's drainage hole.

This is a hybrid seedling from 2024. My only surviving seedling with ‘DenJaka’ as the seed bearer from that year.
The heat has been brutal this year (and obviously it will get worse with each consecutive year). Take care of your plants and most importantly yourselves, during these trying times.

This is a pot of Sansevieria erythraeae.
People know it by the common trade name “Pencil Sansevieria”. Us collectors who have grown this species know how soft and delicate it feels. Yet, it is amazing to see the power packed into its rhizomes. I absolutely LOVE how it tears through thick plastic as if it were fabric. If you zoom in on the tear, it is quite fascinating to look at... the fibres are all stretched and ripped.

About to bloom in the coming weeks. This is the first time it has bloomed for me. There are 6 stalks in total in the pot. A couple are underdeveloped because they didn’t get enough light in the centre of the clump.
