Storming the male bastion
YOUNG & AMBITIOUS ,THE SRINAGAR BASED ARCHITECT HAS GRABBED THE PRESTIGIOUS CONTRACT OF DESIGINING THE 70 MILLION RUPEES "URBAN HAAT" OR THE CITY EXHIBITION CENTRE. TIMES ARE changing & no where can this be found better than in Jammu & Kashmir.Women in the state no longer remaiin confined to their homes,doing household chores. They are now taking up jobs & storming male bastions.And the lull in the valley,that has restored a sort of normalcy here,has enabled more Kashmiri women to pursue their dreams & ambitions. Ishrat Nowshehri falls in this category of young and ambitious Kashmiri women who desire to carve a niche for themselves in the job field. Young and ambitious ,the Srinagar-based architect has grabbed the prestigious contract of desigining the 70 million rupees " Kashmir Haat"or the city exhibition centre. Besides architecture,Ishrat has also tried her hand in interior desigining and renovation of buildings.Though she blends the traditional Kashmiri architecture with contemporary designs ,her main aim is to emphasize Kashmiri art and to popularize it among the masses. A massive project ,'Kashmir Haat' ,is scheduled for opening in july and has plans to showcase handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir.As many as 60 stalls and an amphitheatre are scheduled to be housed in the complex. The centre is also being seen as a stepping -stone for boosting handicrafts in the state. She is a daughter of a Civil Engineer & her mother who is a business women runs her own Kashmir Arts business in Sgr/Delhi. Nowshehri's -Naqashbandi (Khandaan). Ishrat attributes her inclination towards architecture to the immense creativity involved in the field. Architecture is not limited to books.Creativity and immagination is put into paper .We read the clients and see what they have in their minds,says Ishrat. Ishrat has undertaken a variety of projects including prestigious projects for Kashmir University ,Sheikh ul alam library and others. "You can do wonders .Through our desigins,we are trying to highlight the traditional art and architectural beauty of Kashmir" she adds. With her bubbling creativity Nowshehri now wants to go places.As of now ,she is busy with the "Kashmir Haat' project that has popularized her in the valley. DESIGN AWARDS:

In IAADB 2023 ,Prime Minister Narender Modi launched a special postal stamp
commemorating the Bienniale, along with seven themed books on Art, Architecture & Design. One of these books,titled"Samatva: Shaping the Built,"features the works of 75 distinguished women architects of India. It is with great pride & humility that i express my gratitude for being featured in Samatva, alongside these accomplished women architects & for the opportunity to showcase my architectural projects at the Bienniale held at the iconic Red Fort - New Delhi.
