*Man dies at Paras Hospital Sgr; family alleges negligence, seeks probe, refund*

*Family alleges doctors assured them of 98% survival rate; hospital says patient was high-risk, succumbed to cardiac arrest; CMO orders inquiry*

Jahangeer Ganaie

Srinagar, Jul 18 (KNO): A man from the Dalgate area of Srinagar died at Paras Hospital here, with family members and relatives alleging medical negligence.

The family of Gulzar Ahmad, the deceased, told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they had taken him to Paras Hospital for bypass surgery after doctors assured them that the procedure had a 98 percent survival rate.

“After the surgery, the doctors initially informed us that Ahmad was fine, but later said his condition had deteriorated and required an additional procedure costing Rs 3 lakh,” the family members said.

They further alleged that they sold their ornaments and other belongings to raise money for the additional procedure, only to be informed later that Ahmad had died. “Had we known the full risks, we would have sought treatment outside Kashmir,” the furious family said.

They are now demanding a thorough investigation into the case and the return of the approximately Rs 6 lakh they claim was taken by the hospital authorities.

"We are raising our voices because this incident happened with us today, but it could happen to anyone tomorrow," the family said.

The authorities at Paras Hospital said they had counselled the family about the critical and high-risk nature of the surgery.

An official from the hospital told KNO, "Mr Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh, aged 46 years, who was brought to Paras Hospital, Srinagar on July 16 from another hospital in a critical condition, passed away today due to cardiac arrest."

He said that after clinical evaluations, the patient underwent bypass surgery, and his family was kept informed throughout the process. "Despite the best efforts of our medical team, Mr Gulzar Ahmed's condition deteriorated as he was a high-risk patient and succumbed to cardiac arrest," the official said.

The hospital said its team of senior doctors and surgeons made every effort to save Ahmed. It extended its "deepest sympathies" to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Srinagar has requested the Principal of GMC Srinagar to depute a cardiologist to Paras Hospital to conduct a detailed inquiry into the patient's death.

The communique from the CMO, available with KNO, reads, "Subsequent to the death of a patient in the cardiology department at Paras Hospital Sonwar, it is requested that one cardiologist may kindly be deputed tomorrow at 10:00 am to facilitate a detailed inquiry regarding the death of the patient."—

*Assembly elections in Sept, Retrieving PoK to be part of manifesto: BJP leaders told in Jammu meet*

*Union Minister, J&K election incharge G K Reddy chairs party’s office bearers meet in Jammu, tells party men to gear up for contesting all Assembly seats, J&K BJP to demand Bharat Ratna for Maharaja Hari Singh for acceding to India; BJP national Prez Nadda arriving today, to chair impt session in Kathua*

Jammu, Jul 05 (ssn)Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from J&K were given a green signal on Assembly polls post Amarnath Yatra on Friday in a high level meeting chaired by the Union Minister and J&K election incharge G Kishen Reddy in Jammu. The party also evolved a consensus to include retrieval of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in its election manifesto while it also decided to demand Bharat Ratna for Mahraja Hari Singh for his decision of acceding to India in 1947.

Reddy, as per news agency star News Network chaired the meeting of BJP’s office bearers at Trikuta Nagar, Jammu where BJP national General Secretary and J&K affairs incharge Tarun Chug, MPs Dr Jitendera Singh, Jugal Kishore, J&K party chief Ravinder Raina, BJP’s Co-inchage for J&K Ashish Sood, BJP leader and former Assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta besides other leaders were present.

Reddy, who was connected with Jammu and Kashmir, first as the Union Minister of State for Home and then Tourism Minister, was recently appointed as the Election Incharge for the UT. He is presently the Cabinet Minister for Coals and Mines.

A source, privy to the meeting, told snn that Reddy informed the party leaders that Assembly polls in J&K will be held in time (September-October). “The party leaders were clearly conveyed that Assembly polls will be held in J&K post Amarnath Yatra and they must gear up without any further delay. The party men were also told that BJP will contest on all seats and there will be no alliance with any party,” the source revealed. The annual pilgrimage of Amarnath started on June 29 and will culminate on August 19.

Today’s meeting comes prior to the important session to be held in Kathua district tomorrow (July 6) that will be chaired by party’s national president JP Nadda.

The source said that the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting was framed that it was stressed that BJP leaders right from top to bottom in J&K must pull up their socks and launch a massive public outreach prior to elections. “It was also decided that retrieval of PoK will be made part of the BJP’s election manifesto,” the source said. “It would be one of the poll planks of the party.”

The party, as per the source, will also demand Bharat Ratna for Mahraja Hari Singh who acceded to the Union of India in 1947. “Bharat Ratna for the then Mahraja has to be on the grounds that he took a wise decision for Akhand Bharat,” he said.

A party leader, who was part of the meeting, told snn that the party will unanimously convey to the national president in tomorrow’s meeting that “we were ready to contest polls on all seats in J&K.” “We will also wait for the message Nadda will convey to party ranks,” he said. “One thing is clear that elections will be held in September-October and we have to be ready for a big fight.” He said the plan is to bag at least 40 seats to stake claim on government formation.

Pertinently, the Election Commission of India has already started the preparations for holding Assembly polls in J&K. On May 16, Union Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar and conveyed to BJP leaders that gear up for Assembly polls and that the party would fight on all seats.

Prime Minister Narendera Modi on the occasion of international Yoga day at SKICC Srinagar had stated that the day was not far when J&K people would choose their own government and time wasn’t far when J&K would march towards success and progress as a ‘State’ again.

The Supreme Court of India had directed the Centre to hold Assembly polls in J&K in September and to restore the Statehood as soon as possible—(star news network)

I will be away for a few days. Taking a break to step back, pause and reflect.

Winning and losing is part of life. A setback, Yes, but should it allow us to lose sight of our larger goal - the empowerment of our people, their dignity, development and making their voices heard - No!

Elections were merely a vehicle towards this larger goal, never an end in itself. If at all this setback should invigorate us further, strengthen our commitment, conviction and resolve towards realising our collective goal.

I would once again want to thank each one of my supporters who stood by me, believed in me and strengthened my convictions.
I am also indebted to our Pandit brothers. And also Sikh brothers for extending their support. They remain an integral part of our larger dream for a peaceful, prosperous and empowered Kashmir.

God Bless.

_*End of an Era: Mohammad Akbar Lone's 52-Year Political Journey Concludes*_

Bids Adieu to Politics

Hajin: After 18 years as an MLA in Sonawari and six years as an MP for the North Kashmir constituency, Mohammad Akbar Lone's tenure finally came to an end on June 5. This marks the conclusion of a 52-year-long political career that began in 1972. He first contested an assembly election in 1983 on a People's Conference ticket, which he lost to the National Conference candidate.

After that, he joined the National Conference, and the party gave him the mandate from Sonawari in the 1996 elections, which he again lost, this time to the late Mohammad Yousuf Parray, also known as Kuka Parray. In the 2002 assembly elections, he defeated the former MLA of Sonawari, the late Mohammad Yousuf Parray.

Throughout his career, Lone held several significant positions, including Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Higher Education Minister, and Deputy Speaker. His close aide told this reporter that he wouldn't take part in active politics anymore in the future due to health reasons. "His health condition does not permit him to engage in full-scale political activity now as doctors have advised Lone Sahab to take complete rest," he said.

With his departure, his son Hilal Akbar Lone is expected to take up the mantle and contest in the upcoming assembly elections from Sonawari.

It remains to be seen whether Hilal Akbar Lone will continue his father's legacy in this stronghold. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the National Conference (NC) managed to maintain a lead in Sonawari against opponents Imtiyaz Parray and Yasir Reshi.

Time will reveal who will ultimately prevail in this political landscape. For now, the distinguished tenure of Mohammad Akbar Lone has come to an end.
