STARTING A VEGETABLE GARDEN

Growing a vegetable garden is a unique form of gardening. Most vegetables are annuals so one has to start from scratch every year. One essential factor to keep in mind is to not get too enthusiastic and be tempted to grow everything at one time. Secondly be aware of the space available to you . The space can be terrace , balcony ,ground space or window sill and will the RCC ot concrete slab be able to take the weight, and water proofing do the terrace is must. In case of worm or insect infestation the problem should be tackled as soon as possible be trimming the foliage , if massive fungal infection to the entire plant , uproot the entire plant completely. Nitrate manure is Avila le in most nurseries and organic manure (20gm) once is 30 days . One can add vermi compost.
Tomatoes: two varieties can be home grown country tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, big pots are needed as the root goes deep on the soil. Either buy commercial seed packet or just cut tomato in four section and bury it about an inch in soil. Wait for 3-4 weeks for the seeds to start sprouting into a plant; S the plant grow it needs support to hold it together. It grows best in fast draining loamy slightly alkaline soil. Garlic can be gown by planting garlic pod bulb. Gourds, egg plants are very easily grown vegetables at home . Take a section of ginger or eye of potato or root of carrot and plant it a container it will yield good results.

Rose the eternal beautiful flower is most widely preferred by home gardeners as potted plant or planted in soil.potted plants have more survival rates.the advantage of container grown roses is that the colour of the flower and foliage are visible and have instant plant ready to fill up the garden.
There are about 150 species of roses.
HYBRID TEAS have long pointed buds. They grow uptown 3 to 5 feet tall.
SHRUB ROSE are hardy and low maintenance. Plant grow upto 4 to 6 feet tall and bloom all season.
FLORIBUNDAS are bushy plants(2to4feet tall) . Flowers are born in clusters. Thos variety can be used for garden borders.
GRANDIFLORAS are derived from hybrid teas and floribundas. They bloom repeatedly throughout the season , medium to large flowers in small clusters.
CLIMBING ROSES are tall plants . They grown on wall , fences, trellises, topiary , patio. Flowers are comparatively big with only few clusters.
MINIATURE ROSES grown upto 2 feet or less in height with small blooms . Climbing hybrids are obtained by crossing climbing rose variety with miniature roses.
A soil ph between 6.5 to 6.8 is best for roses. Soil should be moist not too dry . Add peat moss, dead leaves and garden mixture. The bare root is to be soaked in bucket water for 12-24 hour before planting. Most varieties of roses need at 6 hours of sunlight. Propagation can be done from cuttings , by budding and from seeds. Pruning promotes the growth of blooms and give it good shape. Choosing varieties that are resistant to black spot and powdery mildew is the best. Adding fungicide , pesticide regularly keeps the plant disease free. Using water sprays to get rid of aphids and spider mites is effective. Adding fertiliser per growing season is must.

The gen next are the vectors who will be able to execute this concept . Decorating idols beautifully with zeal is a common scenario. # # But the three 'R's should be recounted for -- ' Reduce, Recycle and Reuse' . This helps cut down on non- biodegradable waste . Ban use of plastic , thermacole .
# # Use of ecofriendly Ganesh idols and limiting the size and numbers of Ganesh idols in the vicinity . Clay , coconut shells , recycled materials can be used to make idols.Ecofriendly decoration like paper , flower wood, jute , cloth , even fruits or vegetable can be creatively and artistically used. Use of natural colours for rangoli like flower petals, rice powder, haldi, kumkum , mehendi will not pose hazard to human health or ecosystem .

Hanging pot plants are the decor darlings of latest international scene. *)Selection of the basket : commercially available baskets come in various beautiful shapes and sizes. The decor of the the surrounding is to be taken into consideration also the plant species selected plays a role in to selection of pot.
*)Lining of the basket: when the basket is lined soil is kept in place . The best lining is sphagnum moss combined with underlying perforated polythene sheet. This reduces need to water.
*)soil: A good quality potting mix or compost should be used for hanging basket. A slow release fertiliser is mixed with the soil.
*) Selection of plants: Choosing plants for your hanging baskets depends on the individual's preference . They can be flowering plants or foliage plants. One can add more than one variety of plant in the same basket.
*) Position : once the basket is ready ensure that the hooks are sturdy as the basket gets heavier after watering and as the plant grows . Placing the hanging basket wherever the view is perfect, if it's getting adequate sunshine or shade should be taken into consideration .
*) Aftercare: Watering the basket with watering can is advisable. Some visible signs that ur hanging plant is unhappy are yellow leaves, stunted growth , or poor flowering . Lookout for infestation bugs. Central heating or cooling can damage the plant.

Celebrating nature is the most exhilarating aspect of life. The flower carpet displayed in the Grand place in Brussels is a beautiful view to behold. Officially the first floral carpet as it's present form was created in 1971 on Grand Place by the landscape architect E. Stautmans . He had been experimenting since the early 50's making smaller carpets, rugs consisting of Begonias . With trial and error method , imagination , endless calculations E.Stautmans became an expert in the creation of superb floral carpets with sophisticated colours and intricate designs. Preparations often starts a year in advance . A plan is finalised , it is theme based , or the motifs can be African tribal designs etc. Number of flowers. Colour combinations are calculated. Out lines are drawn on the ground. Hundreds do skilled gardeners work enthusiastically to put this masterpiece together. The floral pattern is filled with turf . A micro climate is created . Flowers are tightly packed together or the flowers might get blown away by gust of wind. Water is sprayed to keep the flowers fresh . A magical sight to be enjoyed by the public . It's a festival indeed .

Home landscaping.
There are some basic guidelines for a home landscape. But personal preference plays a considerable role in developing the home garden space. The home it's garden designing is the projection of the owners personality and creativity. It might be themed space , including a water body , rock garden , zen garden , utility aspects like vegetable or herb garden, play area for kids, relaxing area, topiary, privacy aspects like shielding from traffic or public view. Again a relatively big or relatively small home garden depends on the space available .
Making a plan : Before any actual garden work is undertake a master plan has to be prepared according to a scale. Main feature like the house , flower beds shrubbery are plotted. Big trees, their position , shaded area , direct sunlight , avenue trees should be clearly plotted in the plan.
Approach or public area: This is the area from the street side extending to the entrance of the house. The aim is to harmonise or blend the surroundings with the house proper. It is important to note that planting in front of the house should neither obscure it nor cut off light and air nor block the window thus obstructing view of the garden from indoors.
Big trees if space permits , can go in the backyard but should not be overcrowded in the front. A few low growing trees can be accommodated at the appropriate placesas next to the entrance or front lawn. An open lawn withe annual(zinnia, salvias, and petunia)or perennials ( canna, chrysanthemums, and impatiens in shade)
Work or service area: it must be orderly and attractive . This area includes the kitchen garden , compost bins, or children play area-- sand pit. A thick hedge or a row of bushy shrubs is appropriate I'm this area.
The private garden or living area. : here people sit entertain so shady trees are must. One can block unwanted peeping by strangers by adding screens with creeper or twines. Garden benches offer a real opportunity to add utility . A centre water fall , topiary masterpiece can add elegance. Aside stretch of lawn with shrub border or annual beds rose garden is ideal for this area. A lily pool if desired is another choice .
Some important things like maintenance, after care , cost and time have to be taken into consideration. Lighting is another aspect to be planned.

Plants easily adapted to house environment are grouped under " indoor or house plant" category , they are not just a decorative piece but some also have health benefits . Dish gardens/ mini landscapes/Bowl gardens / miniature gardens. Dish gardens are created in a shallow dish or container. The small scale delight can become an interesting focal point indoors , limited space or outdoors. The planter or dish can be of terracotta or ceramic, also hollowed tree sections or rocks can be perfectly delightful. The container has to have proper drainage. Themes of these miniature gardens can be left to ones imagination. Harmony is considered a plus point. The plants used should be slow growing , naturally small even at full size. Species like African violets , baby tears ( soleirella soleirolii) , fittonia , miniature sinnigias , succulents, ferns , episcias , mondoo grass are some of the varieties appropriate. High quality potting media is used , Good drainage gravel is a necessity . Soil can be added in layers creating contouring covering the roots and not stems. Levelling of the soil and adding coloured pebbles adds to the beauty of your dish garden. Finishing touches by placing figurines, statues , faries completes the landscape. A water body , bridge takes the mini landscape to another level, carefully water dish with long nosed watering can , just to moisten.
