ഈ ചിത്രത്തിലുള്ളത് ഒരുതരം കള്ളിച്ചെടിയാണ് (Cactus). ഇതിനെ സാധാരണയായി Cereus cactus അല്ലെങ്കിൽ Hedge Cactus എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലൊക്കെ പലയിടത്തും വേലികളിലും മറ്റും ഇത് കാണാറുണ്ട്.
ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പ്രധാന വിവരങ്ങൾ താഴെ നൽകുന്നു:
സവിശേഷതകൾ
* ഘടന: തൂണുകൾ പോലെ നീളത്തിൽ വളരുന്ന ഇത്തരം ചെടികൾക്ക് വശങ്ങളിൽ വരിവരിയായി മുള്ളുകൾ ഉണ്ടാകും. ഇതിനെ 'Columnar Cactus' എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
* വളർച്ച: അധികം പരിചരണമില്ലാതെ തന്നെ വെയിലുള്ള സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ ഇവ വേഗത്തിൽ വളരും. വളരെ കുറച്ച് വെള്ളം മാത്രമേ ഇതിന് ആവശ്യമുള്ളൂ.
* പൂക്കൾ: സാധാരണയായി ഇത്തരം കള്ളിച്ചെടികൾ രാത്രിയിലാണ് പൂക്കാറുള്ളത്. ഇവയുടെ പൂക്കൾക്ക് നല്ല സുഗന്ധവും വലിപ്പവും ഉണ്ടാകും.
ഉപയോഗങ്ങൾ
* വേലി (Fencing): മുള്ളുകൾ ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ട് പണ്ടുകാലം മുതൽക്കേ പറമ്പുകളുടെ അതിരുകളിൽ ജൈവവേലിയായി ഇത് വളർത്താറുണ്ട്.
