Described as a reimagining of libraries for the 21st century, the House of Wisdom () in Sharjah opened last year with an immersive space and modern architecture, comprising 15 lobbies and halls spread across two storeys.

The two-storey building, which is designed by , features a large floating roof cantilevering on all sides of a transparent rectilinear volume, embodying a clear and light design. A 15-metre-wide overhang shades the façades throughout most of the day, while fixed aluminium screens with differing densities filter the low sun in the evenings.

The landscape of the library is divided into two sections, including a knowledge garden and children’s playground to the south, alongside a more formal, geometrically arranged garden to the north containing The Scroll – a piece of public art by British sculptor Gerry Judah that is a contemporary interpretation of the ancient Arabic scrolls as a single, spiralling sculpture that loops towards the sky.

Japanes architect Kengo Kuma and Associates has designed a chain-clad staircase for Antoni Gaudi’s Casa Batlló - Gaudí Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. The architectural intervention forms the vertical circulation core of the Casa Batllo experience, a new 2,000 sqm immersive exhibition inside the modernist masterpiece. The new staircase connects eight floors and the coal bunkers in the basement. In tribute to Gaud’s use of light, Kuma utilized 164,000 meters of Kriskadecor‘s aluminum chain to create a shimmering, layered metal curtain. The intervention seeks to echo Gaudi’s design of Casa Batllo but in an abstract way, free from the colors
