Love Red?

It is a great idea to use Red in your home but don't make it a dominant color, especially in the rooms where you spend a lot of time. It is a great color to make a statement but you may want to change it sooner than you anticipate.

We are always confused about the picking the right combination of colors for our walls. Here is a simple and effective guide to help you start -

A color-wheel helps you mix colors to get palettes with varying degrees of contrast. Here are the common color schemes that are derived out of a color wheel -

Tone-on-tone: Using several shades of the same color to make a subtle or monochromatic palette

Analogous: Use colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel, to find gentle contrasting schemes to avoid making the room very dramatic and giving it a comfortable yet fun mood

Contrast: Add drama and adventure to the room by picking colors that are evenly spaced on the color-wheel. This is also known as a triad color scheme

Complementary Scheme: Prefer only 2 colors but yet want to make the room dynamic? Pick colors opposite to each other on the color wheel to get the right mood for the room.

Unpredictable rains causing ? Here are a few things you can do to quickly fix the water leakage / dampness of your walls without spending a fortune -

1) Touch the wall to identify there is leakage or dampness in wall. When you touch the affected area on the wall, if you can feel water on your hand, then its leakage. If the wall is cold, then its dampness
2) Identify if the source of water is terrace, roof, external wall or internal wall
3) Clean the affected wall
4) Apply a coat of polymer based waterproofing chemical mixed with Portland cement and let if dry naturally
5) Apply a coat of touch up paint, if required

better! If you thought selecting the right shade of paint was the most difficult job, think again. Below is the procedure for preparing your wall before applying paint

1) Scraping with Sand / Water paper to clean the surface from dust, other material and previous paint
2) Filling any cracks with Plaster of Paris to prepare the wall for painting and avoid cracks in paint
3) Apply a coat of primer so that the plaster does not absorb all the subsequent coats in the wall endlessly and provides better grip to the putty
4) Apply a layer of putty to smoothen and level the surface
5) Another round of scraping with sand / water paper to remove any excessive putty and smoothen the wall
6) Apply 1st coat of paint
7) Touch up with putty and sandpaper, if required
8) Finish the wall with final two coats of paint
