🎙️ I’m truly delighted to have joined the urbanistica.podcast, hosted by the inspiring placemaker Mustafa Sherif — a globally respected platform reaching listeners in over 140 countries.

In this episode, we unpack slum tourism — why it’s gaining global attention amid rapid urban change and resource inequality. We confront the fine line between exploiting poverty and empowering communities as true partners.

Discover how slums hold vast cultural and creative potential, and how tourism can shift from voyeurism to respectful, dignified engagement that boosts local economies. We also highlight the critical role of urban design and the importance of involving residents in developing their own neighborhoods.

🙏 Thank you, Mustafa, for the insightful conversation.

Once a palace symbolizing authority and power, now transformed into an inclusive space for all. This profound change illustrates how architecture preserves the stories of our past while continuously being redefined by the present.

Throwback to my Master's Defense Day. Four months ago, Dr. Ahmed Abdul-ali Rasheed chaired my defense committee — and today, I had the honor of moderating a panel discussion with him.

I had the privilege of chairing the session “Cities for People – Towards Sustainable Urban Development” during the 3rd International Festival of MSW2025 🍃.

This thought-provoking dialogue brought together a distinguished panel of experts — Dr. Ahmed Abdul-ali Rasheed, Dr. Venus Suleiman Akef, and Dr. Mimar Samaan — where we explored the essence of human-centered cities, discussed the true spirit of urban life, and highlighted the role of cultural identity in shaping sustainable urban future.

It was a memorable exchange that placed people — not buildings — at the very core of the city.

I had the pleasure of chairing the session “From Vision to Reality: The Private Sector as a Driver of Sustainable Cities” during .

Joined by distinguished speakers — Dr. Batool Mowafaq, Dr. Zuhair Nassar, and Dr. Haider Al Kufaishi — we explored how strategic partnerships between academia, NGOs, and the private sector can catalyze tangible progress in sustainable urban development.

One key insight that emerged: Sustainability isn't just about planning — it’s about alignment, commitment, and empowering local ecosystems to lead the change.

Grateful for the enriching dialogue, actionable ideas, and the shared belief that sustainable cities begin with sustainable collaboration.
