Letting go!

A year ago I stopped drinking alcohol. From one day to the next. I realized I didn’t want that distraction in my life anymore. It had been there for far too long!

Of course it was very scary at first. Could I do it? Could I have fun without alcohol? Alcohol is everywhere!

But after some time I realized that I actually had more fun without it! Believe it or not 😆 A fog was lifted (if you know, you know).

So: Here’s to letting go of old habits that no longer serve your life - don’t be afraid to let them go!

Write the Future ✌🏼

Do you have kids? *

Every few months you should check which clothes still fit - as sometimes we don’t even realize ourselves how much and how fast they grow! 😅

So why not give the clothes to a friend with a younger or smaller child? Or to a neighbor. Or refugee. Or just to whoever wants and needs them, really…

And ALWAYS keep in mind that you actually need a lot less than you think. So don’t fall into the trap of back-to-school-clothes, seasonal offers, holiday offers, birthday offers, 20%off offers, sales in general! And yes, even when it’s free, only take what you really want - and need! ❤️❤️❤️

Isn’t this better for a lot of reasons? Environment, bank account, helping others, making others happy maybe…. ♻️🥰🧢👚👖🩳

*this doesn’t really only apply to kids, obviously 😜

SHARING-COMMUNITY-NEIGHBORHOOD

Thanks for the lawnmower, dear neighbor!

I think there are many things that you don’t have to own personally and can share very well.

A lawnmower, for example.

There are many advantages: Less clutter, more space, togetherness, neighborly help. And maybe a coffee and afternoon chat.

👒🍀🌺🌤☕️🏡

What do you share?

AND YES: if this post sounds familiar: We did the same in 🇱🇺 And we were such an amazing neighborhood ❤️❤️❤️ I hope my new neighbors here in 🇮🇸 will understand my mindset and not label me as a scrounger 😅😆

Äddi a merci. 🙏🏼 🩷🇱🇺

So much has happened since I founded less.lu in 2017.

I have met so many wonderful people along the way and I am truly grateful for all the support, kindness, encouragement, love and trust I have received.

My life journey, which will continue to be minimalistic, is now taking my family and me to wonderful Iceland 🇮🇸

Whether I will work there in a similar way remains to be seen. Apart from the move, we don’t have much else planned at the moment.

Let’s see what life has to offer.

Merci, danke, thank you, takk.

Over and out (for now) ✌🏼

Are you happy with your Christmas gifts? 🎄🎅🏼🌟

As actually you should be happy, whatever you received. It is nice that people think about you and want to surprise you and make you smile and feel good ❤️🙏🏼

BUT, yes, there’s a BUT: as I discovered in my work, very often people are NOT happy with what they receive. They don’t like it, it’s not their style, they can’t make any use of it. And they do not say anything but pretend they like it. But it doesn’t make them happy. And they end up with a lot of crap filling their closets…

So what would be the right and logical thing to do?

Yes, you are right! You should TELL the person, of course in a nice and respectful way. Because it is not nice to pretend that you like something. Worst case, you keep getting the same kind of present again and again… I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, because we’ve all been there (NO, I DO NOT like any chocolate whatsoever filled with alcohol!!!) 😅

So go ahead, tell the person. Don’t feel guilty.
Remember: The person who gave you a present wants you to be HAPPY! So if you explain to them, they will understand, as they love you and care about you. And if they don’t understand, what does that mean…?!? 🤨 You get me.

Every time I’m with a client in their kitchen, they ask me:
How much kitchen stuff do you have? How many plates, cups, knives, pots?

Well, we just make good use of our utensils: Here our cups/bowls/plates/crossover tableware.

As you can see, it’s in different colors and texture, we use them for coffee, tea, serving bowls, ice cream, soups, whatever really….

So, just as a side note: can you maybe substitute something for something else?

You don’t just have to use things they way other people tell you to.

Even the kitchenware 😜

And yes: this is my lunch 😁

You often see pics of people in Iceland 🇮🇸 relaxing in a random hot spring somewhere out in the beautiful nature.

Which this here is NOT 😜

This is ice cold water at Helgufoss 🥶

And what you also can’t see in the pics is the excruciating wind going on that shoots the raindrops and hailstones into your skin like bullets.

The weather was in fact so bad that wasn’t sure we could actually go ahead and do it - but we did! ❤️🙏🏼

We took some deep breaths, visualized, focused, applied what we had learned from the wonderful Giorgio and Séverine and then just embraced the cold, relaxed (kind of) and let go.

We even had a picnic afterwards 😜

Thanks so much to and Ingibjorg for this cool experience ❤️❤️❤️

Btw: our jackets and shoes are still on the heater to dry…

“Asha Meditation Long Weekend of Silence”

Christmas gift I received because, I said it before and will say it again, experiences are better than things.

What happens to you, your thoughts, your life when you disconnect for a few days?

When you remove things from your life? (I am a minimalist after all) ❤️🙏🏼

No internet

No phone

No emails

No WhatsApp

No Instagram

No Facebook

No books

No TV

No radio

No spoken words

No distractions

When all you do for a few days is meditating for several hours a day, eating vegan food, sitting with your thoughts in stillness.

What happens?

Silence….

But is there, really?…

Or will you be filled with thoughts, with what ifs, with when/then, with thoughts about past and future, about mostly made up worries?

What will come up in your thoughts?

Contemplations about life? About death? About family? About friends? About so called friends? About the state of the world? About connectedness? About separation?

Whatever comes up is what needs your attention at that moment. Then breathe and let it go.

Birthday present to myself: doing my first ever official run on my last day of being 44. 😜

It’s actually only the third time EVER in my life that I ran 10 km (first one ever in my life was only two weeks ago 🤣🤣🤣).

So, again: “experiences are better than things” 😁❤️🙏🏼✌🏼

Now: celebrating with champagne 🍾
Because I deserve it ✌🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

Outside temperature: minus 2
Bath water: ice cold
Feeling: amazing

This was actually a birthday gift I gave to my partner. He loved it, I loved it.

The most important: we experienced it TOGETHER. We created memories together. Something we will talk about for the rest of our life’s, probably.

Maybe, hopefully, it will also make us better somehow. Better at being in the moment, better at breathing, more stress resistant, aware, more mindful, better at being us-me-we. And better at resisting the cold 😜 Maybe you’ll even get to see a picture of us one day swimming in the Icelandic sea ❄️✌🏼

And I hope you get the hint here: EXPERIENCES are BETTER than THINGS!

Thank you again so much for everything; it was an amazing workshop. You are lovely people, Giorgio and Séverine - and all you guys who did this with us 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️

My story

My name is Nicole. Hi there. As we might embark on a very personal journey together, I would like you to know a few things about me, and what brought me here:

I was born in Germany and I am currently living in Luxembourg with my partner and our two sons. My mother tongue is German, I speak English, French, Luxembourgish and a bit of Icelandic - hey, at least everything baby related ;-) It is chaotic sometimes - that's why the basics have to be right.

A few years back, when I was struggling with some health issues, I kept thinking, as so many of us do: "Hey, what is important in life? Not to others, but what is important to me, in my life? How can I be more of who I really want to be, happy, healthy, content?"

I played around with a few ideas and soon discovered that I do not need all the things I have. I started with decluttering my closet, then our apartment, our life, even our diet, basically everything. It felt so good; I felt freed, calm, inner peace, happy, much more balanced, just by getting rid of things.
