Hand-painted cocktail shakers.
Mayan myth meets mid-century mischief.

Back when we were deep in creative work for El Yucateco (), we apparently decided hot sauce deserved ceremonial barware.

So I made some.

Posca pens.
Metal sealer.
Absolutely no fear of color.

We’ve got a few blank shakers left.

Considering a small batch before they start feeling neglected.

Poster-era surf.
Somewhere between nostalgia and neon.

Big wave.
Graphic sun.
No apologies.

“Sunset Surfer.”
Painted years ago as a zen moment caught in pigment and water.

I’ve revisited it a few times — not to change it,
but to see what else was inside it.

Same figure.
Same horizon.

Different fire.

Siren’s Dream.

What was meant to be a little painting livestream turned into a 21-hour-straight conversation with oil paint.

No breaks.
No intention.
Just… momentum.

I don’t recommend it.
But I don’t regret it either.

Nine years ago today, I flew out to Bentonville to Amy’s house to work together on our first commercial project.

Waiting for us was a travel easel.
Not even a real easel.

We built it in the kitchen with her son Alex, who was 13 at the time and offered one very important piece of advice…

I had been poking fun at Amy (like we do), and he very quietly whispered to me:

“Don’t anger it.”

We took that under serious consideration.

The easel worked.
So did we.

“Midnight Stroll on the Gapstow.”
Oil. Palette knife. Winter doing what it does.

Snow falling.
Water moving.
A red umbrella carrying a little warmth through it all.

When the world goes cold — body, mind, soul —
we follow the light.
It doesn’t fix everything.
It doesn’t show the entire path forward.

It just shows us where to step next.

Windswept.

Just a wave. Some wind. Oil paint doing what oil paint does.

We had no idea it would turn into one of our most loved series.

I still don’t know exactly why people love it like they do.

I don’t ask questions.
I just paint more waves.

This one was never supposed to be anything.

Just learning oil paint.
Following a song about stepping out and seeing where it led.

It sold at a show not long after we made it.

Turns out uncertainty has decent instincts.

Painted January 12, 2018.

Oil. Palette knives. A living room temporarily promoted to studio.

Rain-slicked streets. Stalled traffic. One person crossing like permission isn’t required.

Everybody Knows, vol.1.

Eight years later. Still Holding the light.

We’ve never been very good at pretending January is a starting gun.

Around here, the year doesn’t begin with resolutions — it begins with listening. Letting things settle. Letting the work tell us what comes next.

We wrote a little about that today.

If you’re also moving a bit slower than the calendar suggests, you’re in good company.

No countdown.
No confetti.

Just a light on, the ocean nearby, and someone whistling a tune that vaguely resembles a holiday song.
Feels about right.

Happy New Year. 🌴✨
