QUICK TIP: "Exposing Rust: Chipping Fluid & Rust Effects Colors" by Nico Maquettes
Photo 1: First, you must apply a strong base coat of realistic color rust color. We used acrylics colors from the set Rust Effects Colors A.MIG-7106. Then, we protect this base color with a coat of matt varnish A.MIG 089., be sure to let it dry thoroughly.
Photo 2: Second, we apply three thin coats of scratches effect fluid A.MIG 2010 with an airbrush.
Photo 3: Third, the original base color of the vehicle has been airbrushed (here we used Grey Shine A.MIG 911). We humidify the surface, and with a brush we start to remove the grey paint on the areas where we want to see the rust effect.
Photo 4: Finally, another coat of matt varnished is applied with an airbrush in order to protect your work for the next steps of weathering.
Photo 5: Keep in mind that even if a coat of satin varnish is used because it is better for the weathering with enamel or oil paints, in this case we want to keep the matt aspect of the rust.
