Rifugio G. Graffer, competition 2024
Il paradosso del rifugio o continuare a costruire in montagna?

Il rifugio G. Graffer è stato costruito quando la montagna rappresentava ancora una meta turistica per
pochi, dal carattere quasi pioneristico. Offriva più che altro un servizio essenziale per chi frequentava
la montagna all’inizio degli anni 50: il rifugio nel senso proprio della parola, come riparo dalle
intemperie in un ambiente ostile all’uomo come quello della montagna al di sopra dei 2000 metri.
È evidente che questa esigenza viene meno quando l’arrivo a queste altitudini avviene in pochi
minuti tramite una comoda cabinovia.

La demolizione per intero della struttura esistente e la seguente nuova costruzione alla fine degli anni 80, deve essere valutata in modo negativo con la consapevolezza ecologica di oggi.
Mentre la demolizione di una costruzione utilitaristica ma elegante della fine degli anni 40, può
dispiacere anche da un punto di vista architettonico culturale, sono soprattutto il grande dispendio di
risorse energetiche e i danni ambientale permanenti che comporta una nuova costruzione in questo
contesto a sembrare fuori luogo.

„The comprehensive approach stimulates intensive discussion, although the seamless placement directly adjacent to the historic building leaves some questions unanswered. The intensive engagement with the public space not only provides the site with an urgently needed added value in terms of atmosphere and
atmosphere and quality of stay, but also addresses the issue of biodiversity and sealing. The consistent interpretation of the building as a building hut right down to the construction, the open spaces and even the work processes is certainly seen as a bold and exciting contribution. The complete dissolution of the backyard character in favour of an apparently versatile testing hall in the transition to an attractive open space is appealing from an urban planning perspective.”
