For today's DIY post I am displaying my first ever 3D model done on SketchUp! I am pretty happy about it as a first project and I hope I can deliver further modeling projects ASAP 😍

Next models will probably be of pieces I will build, still need to get a better hand of SketchUp.. but I hope soon I will be able to sketch something I can build 🙏🏻

The second pattern of my cutting board series is nearly done, I still need to do the glue up, sanding and so on!
I will add a frame to the pattern, as I realised too late that the pattern was too small and ends up giving me a rather small cutting board... 🤦🏻‍♂️

Acer Saccharum, or most commonly know as Hard Maple, is on today's post! Have you ever heard of it?

It is probably one of the most known tree in the entire world for it's edible product: the maple syrup 😍

Nevertheless it is an incredible wood to work and is often used for various purposes, checkout the post until the end to understand what it is used for 😉

Khaya Anthotheca, or known as East Africa Mahogany, is on today's post! Have you ever heard of it?

It is the first exotic wood I ever bought and to be honest I really like it! I have also learned some facts about while reading the Wood Dictionary by Eric Meyer. I recommend this book if you are interested about all different wood types 😍

This week we talk about OSB in the wood type series! I didn't know much about OSB before as I have never used it, but now I hope it will push me into using for other purposes than furniture making, although it could be a good compromise for some builds 🤔

So today we won't be having a creative post, but rather an intellectual one. This selection of three books are going to be my main reading focus for this year and I can't wait to share some crispy informations that are in them 😱

Book number one: The Atlas of Furniture Design by Vitra Design Museum. It collects over 1,700 design objects from over 500 designers and is probably a go to for some of the best design objects 🙋🏻‍♂️

Book number two: The wood dictionary by Eric Meier. It collects over 350 types of woods with some in depths comments and research about them 🙋🏻‍♂️

Book number three: Le travail du bois pas à pas by Colin Eden-Eadon. This book goes over 100 types of tools and techniques that are used in the woodworking world 🙋🏻‍♂️

⚠️ Long post, save now read later ⚠️

Plywood was the first wood I had the opportunity to work with, so it holds some kind of special place in my heart. The two first projects I did (the PLOW Stool and the Nighstand, for those who do not remember) were made out of birch plywood. I really enjoyed making them and I think that plywood was the best option at the time, both in terms of price and knowledge required to craft something out of it. It is pretty easy to handle compared to "proper" wood and the result you can get out of it are incredible! With a little bit of practice and some time invested in your project you can definitely create outstanding pieces of furniture with it!

So I wanted to go over plywood in a separate post, which is the first out of a three post series on the different types of engineered wood. In this post I went over the information I considered as important to know and understand why plywood could be interesting to use.

But why is plywood so widely spread? 🤔
- It is a really strong wood that has many advantages for woodworkers.
- It is pretty easy to handle with DIY machine tools.
- You can find it pretty much in any DIY store.
- There are various sizes and thickness to suit your projects.
- Etc.

2021 has been the year where I decided to change a lot of things in my life. 2022 will be the year in which I will try and convert all these projects and make them grow bigger. 💪🏻

As promised here is a post on my different objectives and plans for this year. It is a bit light of information, but you will get more information about the projects daily/weekly, depending on my workflow on the various projects. 😅

Engineered wood is widely used by many woodworkers, but also at a large scale. It is probably one of the best inventions in wood working for many reasons and it will be used more and more throughout the years!

What are your thoughts on the Zig-Zig cutting board? 🤔

After a multitude of attempts here is my first ever endgrain cutting board! It took me a few tries and the imperfections are part of handcrafted objects, but overall I am really satisfied of the result!
