Ogni città ha bisogno di una visione. Non di una visione astratta, ma di una capacità concreta di immaginare il proprio futuro e di costruirlo nel tempo. Nell’intervista al Secolo XIX Alfonso Femia racconta alcune delle riflessioni che da anni accompagnano il suo lavoro: il rapporto tra acqua e territorio, la necessità di riconfigurare il legame tra natura e artificio, l’importanza dell’educazione urbana, il valore della continuità nei processi di trasformazione. Genova è una città straordinaria. Per storia, cultura, clima, qualità della vita e posizione nel Mediterraneo. Ma ogni potenzialità richiede una scelta: decidere chi vogliamo essere e quale identità vogliamo costruire per i prossimi decenni. Le città che oggi consideriamo esempi virtuosi non sono nate da interventi episodici. Sono il risultato di strategie coerenti, di investimenti culturali, di una capacità collettiva di guardare oltre il presente. Per questo nasce la Fondazione Le Città del Futuro: un luogo di confronto, ricerca e progettualità, aperto alle istituzioni, ai cittadini, ai professionisti e ai più giovani. Perché il futuro delle città non è un tema per specialisti. Riguarda tutti noi.

Between what we imagine and what we observe, a thought takes shape. A thought that belongs not only to the project, but to the way we choose to inhabit the present and interpret the future. Aspiration generates it: it is the tension toward the unprecedented, the desire to go beyond the boundaries of the already known, to open new possibilities. Perspective reveals it: it introduces depth, puts distances into relation, restores value to the differences and connections that define every place and every experience. The concept makes it possible: it gathers intuitions, visions, and memories, transforming them into a form capable of embracing change.

Choosing to search for a new “place” means much more than inhabiting a space. It means recognizing the value of a story and projecting it into the future; it means deciding what kind of dialogue one wants to establish with the city and with those who live in it or pass through it. At Palazzo Melograno, dreams, perspectives, and design become the coordinates of a path that weaves together vision and reality, memory and innovation, rootedness and openness, generosity and responsibility.
