What does a contemporary Grand Hotel in the Alps look like?

G22 Projects and Snøhetta's design proposal for a hotel development in South Tyrol is based on a reinterpretation of a classic and characteristic Grand Hotel. As part of an invited competition, the design team was asked to reimagine this historic typology within the context of South Tyrol's Alpine landscape.
By breaking down the building volume and reducing the strict symmetry and repetition typical of monumental architecture, the team created a more approachable yet recognizable form. As visitors move toward the hotel, changing viewpoints restore a feeling of grandeur and order, ensuring the Grand Hotel's iconic identity remains intact.
