Gold German Design Award in Excellent Architecture, Bronze Eurobest Award in Design and LIT Lighting Design Award in Exterior Architectural Illumination for the zero-energy media façade of the Novartis Pavillon.

We carried out a series of parametric design studies to define the geometry and graphic image of the façade, further designed and engineered in collaboration with iart - studio for media architectures.

In a forest, the ground is never hard. Shoes sink into a soft layer of plant material, a fertile mixture of organic matter that helps the forest flourish. The trees nourish the humus, and the humus nourishes the trees. Why not believe that architecture too can be fertile? That man made buildings can nourish the ground and the ground can nourish the buildings?

Satellite Stations are architectures born from a reflection on the relationship between eternity and temporality. Today the planet is too cluttered, but we need buildings, and so architecture needs to contribute to evolution by connecting to the dimension of life as flowing and passing.
Satellite Stations instil a syntonic relationship with time, entering into the flow and displaying traces of atmospheric phenomena until they themselves become nourishment for nature.
They are small buildings, places for contemplation, greenhouses, stages and pavilions as compliments to living and built from wood that transforms into humus over the course of time.

One of our most recent collaborations is with Domus Academy for the Master in Urban Vision & Architectural Design: started in September, it is a chance to reflect and explore a variety of themes that form part of our ideas and vision for future communities and their ability to respond to changing life needs and environmental conditions.

THE HALL OF CELEBRATION – Igniting the spark of sociality
It is a large space that protects and nourishes sociality: a round pavilion where people can meet, eat, listen to music, celebrating and dancing in the midst of nature.
The circular geometry of the room creates an ideal atmosphere for social exchange and connection, preventing people from feeling isolated and fostering a spirit of joyful cooperation.

THE MYSTICAL LABORATORY – Connecting hands and mind
It is a hut equipped for manual work: everything we do with our hands takes on meaning because we transfer a human value to objects.
The wooden roof slopes down to the ground and incorporates numerous windows that allow a diffused light to infiltrate.
It is the ideal atmosphere for concentration, where the hands translate thoughts and become the instrument of the mind, transforming intangible ideas into tangible objects.

THE ACOUSTIC STAGE – Breathing music in the open air
It is a covered stage that creates an alternative and natural experience of music and architecture, fostering the connection between people and the environment.
The wooden structure is a sound box, which amplifies sounds and melodies like a seashell, without the need for any electronic instruments.
The stage can lie on the banks of a lake or along the slopes of a forest to carry the music outdoors.

THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE MIND – Searching for answers in nature
It is a transparent shelter placed at the end of a space that is initially narrow and restricted near the door and which then expands to become a large vertical wall.
The building is conical in form: entering from the vertex, you cross the dark nave and reach a glass chamber, which extends out to the base of the large wall. Here you can simply gaze outside and admire nature in all its forms. Observing the clouds in the everchanging sky, listening to the sound of the rain and the silence of the snow, calms the mind and stimulates deep reflection.

THE GARDEN OF CULTURE – Cultivating ideas, thinking about nature
It is a greenhouse for collective growth, where ideas are cultivated surrounded by seeds and plants, by growing vegetation. The human and plant world come together in the same environment, in an auditorium of wood and glass where intellectual faculties and human awareness are honed through dialogue. The circular shape and the conical cupola reinforce the communion of aims and stimulate the sharing of ideas.

THE CHAPEL OF LIGHT – Accentuating the light
It is a small chapel for meditation that focuses on the symbolism of light: natural light is life.
The entrance to this dark room is through a tunnel that is permanently open, like the mouth of a cave. The darkness is deliberately disorientating, “as if it were a
time before the world existed, before the trees, flowers or people existed, dark as the
darkness of ignorance”.
But overhead there is a funnel that projects a ray of light, like symbolic knowledge, and so tangible that it moves you to touch it.
