My designer philosophy
In this complex but fascinating job, there are some guidelines which me and my collaborators follow. First of all we had to follow a scale of values , which could help us to tackle the difficulties of the project, that is the sequence which puts at first place the space, the functionality and then the shape. We believe that there has to be an essential relation with reali
ty. A good project which is unable of exploring in concrete the constraints defined by the functionality, by materials and by technologies doesn’t exist. It is also extremely important to give more space to research and to innovation which have now become the necessary energy for the industry in order to get on the market and beat the competition. It is necessary to remember that the major or minor quality of each project is defined by the amount of innovation which has to be at the same time typological, morphologic and functional. It is absolutely necessary to permit and make sure that there has to be contamination with the other sectors (cars, objects, interior decoration, etc) and also with the other disciplines (fashion, design, etc.). Fundamental is also the quality of the interaction between the designer and the entrepreneur and also between the designer/planner and the technical staff of the naval shipyard. We must bear in mind that design it is not barely a rational project; but it recalls memories of the past, that is an active and critical memory in order to recuperate the past cultures, putting them in a historical prospective which enables the actualization. Fundamental is also to recognize the strong emotional component to relocate in the project and the importance that we have to give to the research of an emotion, so that it can determine the success of a boat more than other technical-practical elements. It must be said that it is important a correct and in deep analysis of the marketing, in order to hit the aim of the project. It is fundamental that the designer maintains a strong autonomy, to avoid the risk of an homologation and the flattening of the project itself.
