Jean Widmer, a Swiss graphic designer, created the Centre Pompidou logo in 1977. Sketched on a café tablecloth, it abstracts the building’s façade with five black stripes and zigzags, evoking the iconic escalator “chenille.” Initially reluctant, Widmer crafted a minimalist, timeless design under pressure. Restored to five stripes in 2019, it remains a landmark in graphic design, symbolizing the Centre’s dynamic, multidisciplinary spirit
