Ricordate The Veddel Embassy, il progetto curato da Björn Bicker e Malte Jelden e promosso dal Goethe-Institut a cui - insieme a voi e agli abitanti di Veddel - abbiamo dato vita lo scorso ottobre?

CONVIVIUMEPULUM, Latin for “living together” and “public celebration” brings together Venetians and guests from abroad to prepare various dishes for a culinary-discursive evening. Against the backdrop of Venice’s history, CONVIVIUMEPULUM seeks to meld foreign and local traditions, cooking, by recipe or improvised, and performing art. CONVIVIUMEPULUM is a choreographed Food‐Performance, which addresses questions on production channels and local nutritional resources and enquires into how food determines our socio-cultural and historic identity. The performance is about living together, hospitality and conversation.

For Performing Architecture artists Björn Bicker and Malte Jelden founded The Veddel Embassy in Venice together with many residents of the quarter and represent Germany: multicultural and multi-religious, full of conflicts and unresolved issues, full of joy and excitement at the diversity. During the opening hours of the Embassy, all people were invited to think about living together in Europe. During a whole week, guests to the Embassy ate together, played and prayed together, enacted plays, played music and discussed. Everybody was welcome to visit The and become ambassadors of diversity. During the opening hours of the Embassy, all people were be invited to eat, pray and discuss together as way to reflect and celebrate living together in Europe. Everybody became ambassadors of diversity. Show me your Veddel!

The photographer Christian Bartsch lives on Veddel. For years he has been taking photos of the people from the district. His pictures are everywhere in the Embassy – on the walls, on the tables. And while you’re looking at them, he might well be taking a photo of you.

VEDDEL UNITED

Sedat Cukadar, son of Turkish immigrants, is the founder of the new football club on Veddel: Veddel United. A football club for everyone. Regardless of origin or religion, they play football together. But Veddel United is even more. The club is the living dream of peaceful co-existence. In Venice the children and adults of the club trained together with children from local football clubs. Germany – Italy was yesterday. “Veddel United” is everywhere.
