Herrenberger Tor/

A 200-year-old nagayamon gatehouse reborn as a facility for a specialist German wine importer.
At the heart of the space, a large picture window frames the ever-changing face of the garden through the seasons. Its reflection in deep, lustrous tiles — evoking the richness of a fine red wine — draws the shifting landscape into the interior, setting material and nature in resonance.
The tiles, inspired by the existing brick boundary wall, forge a visual continuity between inside and out. Against their rhythmic joints, the seamless surface of colour stainless steel offers a beauty of contrast — order and flow held in quiet tension.
The weathered columns and beams, bearing two centuries of history, and the modern materials that mirror the garden’s seasonal colour — these elements call to each other, composing what we have named kūkan no hibiki: the resonance of space. An artistic dining environment where time, material, and nature sound together.
