A way of reimagining the grave as an indoor place of remembrance

Rather than thinking of a grave
as an object standing outdoors,
we want to see it
as a place for quietly remembering the deceased.

The columbarium chamber is an indoor grave,
where visitors can offer prayers at any time,
regardless of the weather.

There is also the option of a communal grave
resting within a small garden surrounded by water and greenery.

Conceived in a form closer to the original idea of tree burial,
it is planned as a place where one returns to nature.

Growing together with the temple over time,
it gently cultivates a landscape of prayer.

室内墓というお墓のあり方

お墓を、
屋外に建つ“もの”ではなく、
静かに故人を想う“場所”として考えたい。

納骨室は、
天候に左右されることなく、
いつでも手を合わせることのできる室内墓。

また、水と緑に囲まれた小園に眠る合葬墓という選択肢。

本来の樹木葬に近いかたちで、
自然の中へと還っていく場所を計画しています。

寺とともに時間を重ね、
祈りの風景をゆっくりと育てていく。

I went with the client to a certain nursery field to inspect trees for the project.

Because trees are living things, each one is unique. Every tree has its own character, so we carefully examine them while considering aspects such as front and back, as well as how each one will be planted.

Fortunately, we were able to find some very fine trees. The planting will take place in autumn, and I am very much looking forward to that moment.

建て方も順調に進み、建物の全体像が見えてきました。現場では内外装の仕上げの確認を進めています。
実際の建物を前に素材や色を吟味しています。

The framing work is progressing smoothly, and the overall form of the building has begun to emerge. On site, we are reviewing the interior and exterior finishes. Standing before the actual building, we are carefully examining the materials and colors.

このたび、東北文化学園大学にて教授に就任いたしました。

東北文化学園大学は工学系、社会科学系に加えて医療系の学部・学科を持つ東北では唯一のユニークな総合大学です。
“風景を生かす建築をつくる”をテーマに引き続き、建築・ランドスケープの設計と研究教育活動にも取組んで参ります。

ちょうど11年前の今日は豊橋技科大での取組みが文部科学大臣表彰を受けた日でした。技科大といい、文化学園大といい、技術と環境にはご縁があると感じています。

I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed Professor at Tohoku Bunka Gakuen University.

Tohoku Bunka Gakuen University is a distinctive comprehensive university, unique in the Tohoku region in offering programs not only in engineering and social sciences, but also in healthcare.
Continuing to work under the theme of “creating architecture that brings landscape to life,” I will remain engaged in architectural and landscape design, as well as in education and research.

As it happens, exactly eleven years ago today was the day when our work at Toyohashi University of Technology received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award.
With both Toyohashi Tech and Bunka Gakuen University, I feel a meaningful connection to technology and environment.

We are experimenting with AI-generated visualization for architecture and landscape.
Using model photographs (white models) as a base, we apply textures to simulate exterior finishes and create walkthrough videos by adding people.

Keeping up with rapidly evolving AI is not easy, but depending on the prompts, the results can succeed or fail—it’s a very fascinating process.

納骨堂の現場では基礎のコンクリートが打設され、建物の輪郭を正確に把握できるようになりました。
想像していたよりも大きく広がりを感じます。良い感じです。

The columbarium site has had its foundation concrete poured.
This allows us to understand the building’s outline more clearly.
Is it just me, or does it feel larger than expected? It looks so good.

The exterior walls of the columbarium adjacent to the reflecting pool will be unified with the main building using charred cedar (yakisugi).
We aim to create architecture as landscape, shaping the surrounding environment.

On the east side, the large volume of the gymnasium will be visually screened by the deep eaves, guiding the view toward the reflecting pool and planting.
