So congratulations!!! You have your borehole, but did you know that the second most important consideration after proper construction of a well should be a frequent cleansing and maintenance regime? This is intended to ensure that your well consistently gives you the same flow rate and a clean ‘fit to drink’ water supply as from initial construction.
Many boreholes in Kenya and the EA region are contaminated with;
1) Iron Oxide.Tell-tale signs will be diminishing water flow from the well.
2) Manganese oxide. Contamination will be indicated by a brown /black coloration to the water and generally occur in conjunction with Iron oxide contamination.
3) Iron related bacterial contamination. Here water will appear crystal clear at first then take on a brown tinge after settling for a while and over time develop a foul smell.
